Sometime since he had quite a spell of sickness but recovered and was on our streets and attending to work at home, but a few days ago he complained and yesterday morning he was found in bed speechless and he grew worse and died suddenly. Mr. Derrick was a quiet and inoffensive citizen and had many friends, who with his family and relatives mourn his departure. His remains were buried in the town cemetery at 2 o'closk this afternoon. Aldrich, late County chairman of the Republican party of Lexington county, and one of the most loyal republicans of this county, it is deemed fitting in an humble way to express our deep sense of loss and regret. Therefore, be it resolved by the convention now assembled: First. That in the death of Mr Aldrich the county has lost a valuable citizen and the Republican party a faithful member. * Second. W. r The Woman's Association for the Improvement of Rural Schools of So. Ca. At the close of one of the most successful terms of the Teachers* Summer School, an association will be organized for the improvement of the rural schools. Any white woman can become an active member and any white man an honorary member. The object of this association is to arouse the interest of the people of the county in the improvement of their schools in the way of buildings, furniture, apparatus, libraries and the beautifing of buildings and grounds. All interested in this important movement, whether teacher, patron or friend, are invited to meet in the Institute building at Lexington, Aug. 10, at 12 noon, to organize such an association. Can't Attend Them All. Congressman Lever is a very busy man, for in addition to his official duties, which are not easy, he must make a campaign in five large counties. Since the adjournment of Congress, he has been making from four to six speeches a week, and will be doing so until the primary. His friends in this county are very anxious to hear him, and have extended him many invitations to address them at different places and times. He regrets that he cannot accept ail these evidences of esteem, but it is impossible. He will be at Steadman, Leesville, Hollow Creek, Pelion, Swansea, New Brookland and Chapin, and will thus cover pracitically the whole county.
