Wilson, of Salem, Va., ^ delivered a very able and interesting sermon in St. Stephen's church, Suni day, to an appreciative audience. His mission here was in the interest of the Lutheran Orphan Home at Salem, Va., ^ a noble and worthy institution of the tfmtea synoci, to which a portion ui his sermon was directed, giving interesting facts of the church and its work. Mrs. Mary Senn. j ^ | Death of an Aged- Lady. In the death of Mrs. Ann Delilah Drennan, which occurred last night, there passed away probably the oldest resident of the city of Columbia. She was 91 years of age and for nearly all of her life has been living in this city. She was born at Piatt/Springs, in Lexington county, but moved to Co- j lumbia with her parents while yet a girl.?State. July 8. Silling at Gilbert. Jerry hope shot and killed John Carter, both colored, at Gilbert, Sunday morning. Jerry came down and gave himself up and was locked up in jail. It is said a woman was the cause and that Jerry claims self-defense. Corner Wilson went up and held an inquest. The jury returned a verdict "That John Carter came to his death from pistol shot wounds at the hands of Jerry Hope." 'Reunion--ITewberry College. The Ladies' Aid Society of the Baptist church, will give an ice cream supper on next Saturday night the 14th instant, at the home of Mrs. R. M. Gibbs. Come and bring your 'friend. We will assure you a nice time. Lawn Party. Messrs. Essie and Lucile Efird delightfully entertained their friends and school mates, Miss Hannah Wilson, of Salisbury, N. C., last Thursday evening at a lawn party. The lawn was beautifully arranged and decorated. The trees and piazza were hung with Japanese lanterns. At a very cozy little corner Misses Cora and Ruth Efird presided over the punch bowl. Later in the evening refreshments were served. It was one of the pleasantest occasions enjoyed by the young people of the town for some time, and will long be remembered. The Misses Efird's proved themselves to be versed in the art of entertaining. The following are those who were present: Misses Lula Kaminer, Beulah Fox, Hannah Wilson, of Salisbury, N.
