( Fellow-citizens.: I have been urged J to enter the race for the Legislature, ' and yielding to the importunities of j? friends, I consent. In doing so, it is i with disregard for the teachings of t mv beloved narents. who could see no < V A ' ' f distinction between the penitentiary f and the legislature, save the trifling 1 difference of involuntary and volun- < tary service to the State. Morally, 1 they are the- same. i It is a custom to let the people know < your platform. In order that the '< voters may know who I am, it is ^ necessary to make some observations. 1 I am a native of North Carolina, that 1 proud mother of Andrew Jackson, ] and therefore a relative of his. I ] might, if I desire to, ssEy that I am a 1 descendant of General Zachariah ! Taylor. But one of the main planks ' in my platform is, 4'every tub must stand on its own bottom;" I therefore withhold any further allusion to geneology. Platform: ] 1st. I advocate a County Dispens- ] ary, More whiskey, cheaper whiskey 1 and better whiskey. I would favor ; the State Dispensary if I thought I i could get on the State Board of Di- i rectors. 1 2nd, A better State Capitol build- 1 ing and better sanitation in it. Tins 1 applies to State officials also. < 3rd, I am opposed to. members of ] the Legislature eating peanuts' on < the floor, of the General Assembly f while it is in session, and therefore s advocate, that they be paid more ] tor their services, although it is ] claimed by many that they are now ] paid more than they are worth. 4th, I favor a high license on all bachelors, especially since the Town Coui^cil of Edgefield has placed a license on everybody else. 5th, Since I have no relatives in * the county, I am- opposed to politi- ' cal combinations or alliances. I 1 want a"square deal," and from the ( top of the deck. - ( Respectfully. ^ Samuel Taylor. ^ < The Very Best Remedy for j Bowel Trouble. ( Mr. M. F. Borroughs, ail old and well known resident pf Bluff ton, Ind., says: 1 "I regard Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera < and Diarrhoea Remedy as the very best '< remedy for bowel trouble. I make this '< statement after having used the remedy f in my family for several years. I am never without it." This remedy is almost sure^to be needed before the summer is over. Why not buy it now and be prepared for such an emergency? For sale by Eaufmann Drug Co. Resolutions of Respect. Sinclair Lodge, No. 154, A. F. M. Having received the sad intelligence of the death of Brother J. H. Counts, one of the most respected members, it is deemed fitting to express in some appropriate way its deep sense of loss, and the high esteem in which he was held by his confreres, 1 Therefore, be it T Resolved. That in the death of Bro. ? Counts, the community has lost a s valuable and respected citizen, his wife an affectionate and devoted hus- ! band, and his lodge one of its most active and faithful members, exemplary in his habits, moderate in his 1 demeanor, conciencious in the dis- f charge of his every duty, zelous of ! his obligations as a citizen, consider- 1 ate of the feelings and mindful of the i rights of others. ] Brother Counts lived the life of the i upright manly man and passed from 1 us "Wearing the white flower of a ] blameless life." 2nd. That in further respect to his memory it is ordered that this testimonial of respect be recorded in the minutes of the lodge, that a copy be sent to his devoted widow and to the 1 Lexington Dispatch for publication. ( J. L. Gunter, j C. T. Weed, t 7 Geo. Klapman. 1 1 ' ' < If you knew the value of Chamber- < Iain's Salve yon would never wish to be < without it. Here are some of the dis- \ eases for which it is especially valuable: sore nipples, chapped hands, burns, frost bites, chilblains, chronic sore eyes, itching piles, tetter, salt rheum and eczema. Price 25 cents per box. For fale by t Kaufmann Drug Co. ^ ' ' t Mr. Lyon says he wants to be attor- c ney general in order to place some -\ dispensary rascals in stripes. We do t not, think his amhit.ion will be realiz- i ed, but he would be of 110 assistance t to solicitors in prosecutions unless he a could bring forth an entirely different l sort of ''evidence" from that which c was his chief stock in trade before r the committee, and out of which his press tooters have woven for him a garland of heroism and devotion to f daty."?Record. j d Tillman's Leadership. The Qplumbia State heads a column md a half editorial, "Wanted: A Leader in a (*reat Cause." The gist )f the whole thing i9 a plea for some nan, pledged to destroy the dispenjary system, to enter the race for governor. Mr. Manning is spoken of n tne article as "tne aoiest. ana perjonally most attractive announced candidate for governor," which shows that there is no objection to aim personally. The article concludes with the following remarkable?for the Columbia State?statement: "He who rids South Carolina of the dispensary will rank in history as one of the three great political leaders in the State in the half century following the War Between the Sections?Wade Hampton, Ben Tillman and Who?" Did any one expect to find the Columbia State mentioning Hampton and Tillman in the same paragraph ds great leaders?? Sumter Daily Item. Cured of Sright's Disease. . Geo. A. Sherman, Lisbon Red Mills, Lawrence Co., N. Y., writes: "I had kidney disease for many years and had been treated by physicians for twelve pears; had taken a well known kidney medicine and other remedies that were recommended bnt got no relief until I :egan using Foley's Kidney Cure. The irst half bottle relieved me and four Dottles have cured me of this terrible disease. Before I began taking Foley's Kidney Cure I had to make water about jverv fifteen minutes, day and night, ind passed a brick-dust substance, and sometimes a slimy substance. I be.ieve [ would have died if I had not taken Foley's Kidney Cure." There are many people who have used Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarhoea Remedy with splendid results, but vho are unknown because they have lesitated about giving a testimonial of heir experience for publication.
