The Lexington Dispatch, Entered at the Post Office at Lexington, S. C., as second class matter. G. M. Harm an, Editor and Publisher. The subscription price of the Disp?ktch 5 is$l a year; 50 cents for six months; 25 cents for three months?invariably cash in advance. Circulation, 2,106, Wednesday, December 27, 1905. Sing Cotton. The value of the cotton crop of the 8outh estimated in round numbers will approximate this year the enormoub sum of $600,000,000, and yet this orop is short several million bales. The estimate of the Bureau of statistics issued on December 1, metes the total crop 10,168,000 bales, as against a crop of over 13,000,000 last year. The consumming capacity of the mills nf the world is estimated to be over 14,000,000 bales. Even conceding that there is much cotton in tbe bands of the spinners from last year's crop, it must be evident that there is much in tbe situation to encourage those who expect still higber prices. The cotton fields of the Sooth have at last become the gold mines of the nation, and the man with a farm, a cotton farm, has at last become the most independent man in the world. We confidently expect the Sonth to advance with rapid strides in material prosperity. We are jast emerging from darkness into light. The era of depression, consequent to the poverty left us by the war is to become only a memory to be talked about to our children as we gather them around us in better homes and more happy and comfortable surroundings. The debt-ridden South is a thing of the past. The farmer who complains of hard times now will find that be is playing a lone note. If cotton oontinues around the present price we will build our Xmas bonfires hereafter cut of cancelled mortgages and notes. Let our New Tear pledge be to continue the development of our great industrial possibilities, that in the end the day may be hastened when the South shall be vcrowned | "victor in the world's industrial struggle. The Southern Cotton Association, an organization which has wrought mueb good for the entire South, has || been called to meet in convention at Birmingham, Ala. The program covers three days from January 11th to 13ib, during which time various topics of interest will be discussed by the leading cotton producers, spinners and business men in the South. No more important convention, from a business point of view, has ever been called and its proceedings will be watched with much interest by the whole country. If this Association confines its efforts to matters of a purely business character , its influence must become a powerful pf?? engine for the advancement of all Southern interests. Do any of our younger readers re call that it was oo the 20th of this month forty five years ago, South Carolina passed her ordinance of secession and threw down the challenge to all the wo! Id in defense of her conception of right? Forty-five years age! We can remember the high feeling a 1 over the State, apd the confidence which all bad in our ability to lick the North. Well, we didn't lick her, bat we fought the grandest fight in the aonals of time and only quit fighting when our armies were reduced to rains. ? Fresh air, exercise, nourishing food and Scott's Emulsion will come pretty near curing it, if there is anything to build on. Millions of people throughout the world are living and in good health on one lung. ^ From time immemorial the doctors prescribed cod liver oil for consumption. Of course the patient could not take it in its old form, hence it did very little good. They can take SCOTT'S EMULSION and tolerate it for a long time. There is no oil, not excepting butter, so easily digested and absorbed by the system as cod liver oil in the form of Scott's Emulsion, and that is the reason it is so helpful in consumption where - . .1 . its use must De conunuous.
