The fight, started several years ago when H. E Brookshire, business agent for the exchange, announced that the fund could not be distributed as was desired by tbe stockholders at a meeting here. An injunction was brought and tbe fund tnrowu into the hands of a receiver. Afterwards it was deposited in the Palmetto bank, of this city, and has since remained there awaiting a decision by i the Circuit and Supreme Courts. Tne decision means ibat tbe fund will be distributed among the stockholders and it is probable that a A.1 n I li, j .. mefcfcllJg Will uo usucu iu a im uojp to do this. lo has been suggested that the money be tamed over to tbe Southern cotton association or some other organization for farmers, but it I is not probable that this will be done. There was originally about $23,000, but some of this has- been lost in I litigation and some by mismanagement. i Sing of All Couhg Medicines. Mr. E. G. Case, a mail carrier of Can ton Center, Conn., who has been in the U. S. Service for about sixteen years, .says: "We have tried many cough medicines for croup, but Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is king of all and one tc be relied upon every time. We also find it the best remedy for coughs and colds, giving certain results and leaving nc bad after effects." For sale by Kaufmann Drug Co. Baptist Upper Division. Not peculiary noted as a period for the pious observance of the moral code the year 1905 has afforded the "people of the earth more oppofcuoities for public worship than any of its predecessors in perhaps, many decades. Fifty-three Sundays were marked on the calendar, a circumstance that will never occur again during the lives of persons now living, as it is estimated tbat 110 years will pass before this remarkable arrangement of the calendar is again observed The explanation of the phenome i_ i - mi i uoq is Birnpie. xue year uegan on Sunday and will end on Sunday, throwing in an extra day of worship, giving the people of the earth one Sabbath in excess of the number of working weeks. Furious Fighting. "For seven years," writes Geo W. Hoffman, ol Harper, Wash., I had a bitter battle with chronic stomach and liver trouble but at last I won, and cared my disea?es by the use of Ehctric Bitters. I unhesitatingly recommend them to all, and don't intend in the lntor* to be without them in the house. They are certainly a wonderful medicine to have cared such a bad case as mine." Comptroller General Jones says that most of thn objections that he has thus far encountered in connection with his eff rt?tobavr> ?,ll clashes of property in th* State assessed at full mit ket value h is 1 een on account of the three-mill constitution*!] tux. He ssya that he baa fully considered this pDraae of the question and that it iR bis firm conviction that this is : If you haven't Red Meat Tob; Tp? TO THE C We give you our absolute j Red Meat is made of bette good solid juicy chewing plug of any weight offer Write name and address plainly advertisement,we will mail him a Manufactured Only by Liipfert not a real objection. He find* that in practically every township in the Stare there is either a special or a bood tax, and that this three mill tax will just about balance the special levies. He has goDe to the trouble of figuring on the increased assessment, and has found that in the counties on which he has figured the special levies will be about covered by the three-mill tax, and that if the three-mill tax raises an amouat equivalent to the special school taxes then there is no need for the special levies and that it is about as broad as it is long. Mr. Jones has received a great many letters assuring bim of cooperation in his efforts to have the assessments of the State up to full value, and he thinks that it is going to meet with lees opposition than was anticipated. Qe feels satisfied that if the county auditors and boards do not do their full duty the state board will ' jack up?' the counties that lack auditors and county boards that will do what they ought to do. A Fearful Fate. 1 It is a tearful fate to have to endure the terrible torture of Piles. "I can trathfully say," writes Harry Olson, of Masonville. To Stop Crop Guesses. 1 Washington, Dec. 21 ?If a movemeot dow in progress is successful, the department of agriculture will soon go out of tbe business of esti' maticg tbe yield of tbe great staple crops Tbe Keep commission baa just finished its inquiry into tbe crop reporting section oi tbe department, and will soon submit its report to President Roosevelt. It is understood tbat tbe adminis! tration inquisitors will recommend a change in tbe plan and method of ! collecting and handling crop reports. I Many public men believe tbat it is l not tbe business of tbe government to make estimates of tbe probable ' yield of tbe crops, but that it should confine itself to tbe issuance of statements rtflfcting only tne condition of crops. 'The question in regard to school hours should not be how long they can be made and the child retain its health, but how short they can be for the acquisition of knowledge which his years call for" writes Dr> Grace P. Murray in the January Delineator. "In no direction of bringing up children do parents enow such ignorance as in regard to school life. Mothers should make themselves intelligent upon all questions pertaining to school hygiene. They should know first of all that the schoolroom, in which the children are to stay from three to five hours daily, is a fit place; that the school is not over1 crowded: that the best authorities agree that the number of scholars to which a teacher can do justice should be not more than fort), and that a smaller number would be better; that each child should be allowed two ' 1 - J f--. -/ DULUreu CUU1U iet>0 Ul oya^e iu iud schoolroom, otherwise be will not have sufficient air; that the temperature should be according to the tbemometer 65 to 68 degree?; that the j light should fall after the proper ! manner upon the books which the ( child is studying, in order to do ; which there should be plenty of wini dows in the schoolroom.
