There is considerable jomplaint of blight or wilt, as known oy the agricultural department rhere is scarcely# doubt but that ;his disease would destroy the sea aland crop, were it-not for th? imnune seed, now so generally used, md which was first discovered aBd ieveloped by Capt. Address: Ladies' Advisory Ig Dept., The Chattanooga Medicine Co., 8 Chattanooga, Tenn. k Government Officials Helped Get Rich Quick Scheme In D Post Office, i- Chicago, June 22.?Attorney Goril don A. R*msey, who is representing 3 Attorney General Stead in the proi caediDgs against the Continental , Financing company, the latest alleg ed get-rich-quick scheme to come into collision with the law, will call at ODce upon the unnamed legal counsel for the institution, who "adjusted" its troubles in Washington, J to learn how the post office officials l_ i IJ were pereuaueu iv wuuuuiu auiiuu. r Little more thap a month ago Ink spector Stuart sent a strongly worded recommendation to Washington, urging that a fraud order be issued against the concern, debarring it from the mails. Instead of that summary action the department caused the financing promoters to change the stjle of their literature somewhat. They then returned to Chicago, notified their agents in writing that their difficulties at Washington were at an end and they would soon be in an invulnerable position. They then proceeded to resume operations until complaints from investors caus ed the attorney general to close down upon the company with receivership proceedings. Discovery of these letters to the agents, a letter from the general manager to the promoter of another similar concern, urging him to go to Washington ancP"get right" to avoid trouble, and a communication from the lawyer who handled the transaction Jntimating that it was of a character he would not care to carry on bis books, have caused inquiry to turn on the question what methods were employed at Washington to ' get right." It is said that at least 36,000 persons invested in the concern, and that over a million dollars has been lost. Henry Wulf, ex-State Treasurer, who has been president of the company, tried to get some of his letters from the receiver today, but Mr. Ramsay decided to hold them. It was stated last evening that the case of the Continental Financing company had not yet reached Post- ' master General Cortelyou, although it has been before the assistant attorney general, assigned to the department for the consideration of such legal cases. Mr. Cortelyou, , however, has rr quested that a state- J meet of the case be made up at once ^ and presented to bim for consideration. He will go carefully into the matter and ascertain what, if any, foundation there is for the suspicion entertained in Chicago. The department is compelled by j numerous considerations to proceed ^ cautiously against persons and corporations alleged to be doing an ^ illegal business through the mails. . Often important law questions are involved, of which an inspector can have no ad* quate knowledge. Thus, it some times happens, as was explained by a prominent official last ^ evening, that fraud orders are not J issued where they are rec:mmended 1 by inspectors. It some times hap- i pens, also, that the wording of lit- J erature is changed, at the instance 1 of department officials, so as to * TE WOMEN 11 II and strong, bright, hap- ra \ ain, until you build up your M "" ; refreshing, blood-making || I i Cheeks Fink | I K ^ cinal tonic, made from vegetable Kg >ain and distress, such as headache, g] chills, scanty or profuse menstru- Eg n ing medicine for women, the only B ^ 00 bottles. ? Kidney trouble preys upon the mind, discourages aud lessens ambition; beauty, t vigor and cheerfulness soon disappear when the kidneys are out of order or disKidney troubl' s become so prevalent that it is not uncommon for a child to be born afflicted with weak kidneys. If the child urinates too often, if the urine scalds the flesh, or if, when the child reaches an age when it should be able to control the oassas'e. it is vet afflicted with bed-wet ting, depend upon it, the cause of the difficulty is kidney trouble, and the first step should be towards the treatment of these important organs. This u npleasant trouble is due to a diseased condition of the kidneys and bladder and not to a habit as most people suppose. Women as well as men are made miserable with kidney and bladder trouble, and both need the same great remedy. The mild and the immediate effect of Swamp-Root is soon realized. It is thought here that the department's course, although along conservative and proper lines, may have been misinterpreted in Chicago. But whether this be the case or not, the postmaster general will make an investigation from the records available here. Fraud in Pensions. Columbia Evening Record, As a result of fraudulent pension claims filed in Colleton county, prosecutions are now pending and one of the biggest sensations of the year is promised when the truth is known. From the facts made' public by the chairman of the county pension board it seems that in 1891 some claims for pensions for widows were filed before the State Pension board. The applications had been passed upon by the county board and thereupon the State board accepted them. It has been discovered that all of the claims are fraudulent and that the affidavits filed as a result are perjury. Comptroller General Jones said that these claims had been regularly pa;d since they were passed upon by the State and county boards of 1901, and a letter received states that the investigation has just started and promises to uncover some sensationa1 testimony. The parties concerned in :he fraud will be brought before the jourts by the grand jury and instruc ;ions have been issued to push the Investigation through. $100 Bills for Wadding.
