The Lexington Dispatch, G. M. Harm an, Editor and Publisher. Circulation, 1,963* The subscription price of the Dispatch is $1 a year; 50 cents for six months; 25 cents for three months?invariably cash in advance. Wednesday, March 22.1905. The Supreme Court has certainly given the people of the Fork section of this county a black eye by refusing to declare the bonds issued in aid of the construction of the Columbia, i Newberry & Laurens Railroad invalid. These people have bad a heavy bur* den on their shoulders since the road was built and contend thai ea the stock was watered by the people of the three Fork townships should not be compelled to pay them. The messenger of the Central Rank of Oakland, Cal., was robbed of ten thousand dollars on March 20tb, while on bis wav to the Standard oil refinery at Point Redmond by two highwaymen. Sixty persons were hurled to death and fifty others were injured by a boiler explosion in a shoe factory at Brockton, Mass, on Maroh 20 fch. Work on the new buildings of the Colombia hospital has begun and the efficiency of the hospital is to be otherwise improved. R A. Cooper, of Laurens, defeated O. L. Schumpert, of Newberry for Solicitor of the Eighth Judical Circuit and Logan leads in the Ninth. Vice-President Fairbanks has re eeived the Masonic degrees of the J York rite branch to and including that of the royal arch Masons. It is now said that Venezuela and France will see what shot and shell will do toward the settlement of a difficulty. Gen. Gonzalo Fernandines is now the Governor of the state of Mexico for the term ending March 20, 1909. Gastoa S-laaaiags. To the Editor of the Dispatch: The days are warm, We are planting corn. The grippe has gone, The martins have come. The farmers are quite busy preparing their lands and some complain of being behind with their work. Mrs. W. A. Goodwin has been quite sick for some time, but we$ are glad to report her condition much iznnroved. i. Mr. James Hall and wife of Thor, visited relatives and friends in Gaston recently. We are under lasting obligations for kindnesses and favors rendered us by our jovial frieDd and popular railroad agent, Mr. G. A. Goodwin. The year 1905 come in on Sunday aod goes out on Sunday thus giving us fifty-three Sundays. Another one will not occur till the year 2015 The school at Gaston closed on the 18;b, with declamations, dialogues, cake-walk, etc. Those who were fortunate enough to be present, speak of having a delightful time. The Athens and Boynton schools are still running oo full time. Well, Mr. Editor, those orange buds bloomed. Since our last Mr, D. Hampton Craft aod Miss Alzadie Sfe;arkie: Mr. Books Yodco and Miss Ida Dykes wended their way to Mr. Edwin King's who joined them in the holy bonds of wedlock. The boys gave Ham pie an old time serenade. May these young couples _ have [ smooth? Bailing over the turbulent ttnknown waters of the conjugal life. May sncc 83 crown them. Why some people will plow out in the road and across the wagon rots is something non comprehensible by BDly. lis a certain and inevitable fact that grain planted there wili never germinate. ^Klondike" is a spunky man, To go wheeling through that white, deep sand, Carrying the mail for Uocle Sam And dropping sweat as fast as he can. The nights are warm. Well the days are too?for Klondike when he rides that wheel. The members of Sharon church, better known as Cross Roads, are taking steps to erect a more modern and spacious building. Fart of the material is on the ground and the M*nontoi> io chonino i{ The health of the Felix family is again normal. March has behaved very gentlemanly thus far. And Brother Traveler thinks the Ux on the "yalier cor" i3 uDjust. He thinks the dog is worth half as much as a man. Well, he may be, and there is a probability that some dogs are worth more than some men. Billy thinks in his bumble judgment that the Legislature did the wise thing. The only mistake he sees is, the tax ought to have been one dollar instead of fifty cents. Why do I say so! Because there are so many Worthless curs over ibe country kilJi g sheep?wheie tbere are any to kill?sating eggs and doiDg other mischief: and, then, too, there are more doge to go crazy doing untold harm. Most every negro has from one to three and more leaving out the white men's dogs. These Degrees will huot and loaf around on other people's lands. They pay scarcely any tax, send their children to school, if tbere is any in reach, which is supported by the white man's tax, as the most of them aie Now they will have to pay the tax on | their mangy cure or make way with them. This tax like the poll that ot?/3 T r*ao hmfhor "Traveler." po JUU QUU JL. J/HJ V*\/ ku w* , 0 to the school fund to heip educate th8 youths of our land. I doff my hat to the law boys an^ say go it boys and double it at the next meeting of your honorable body. If a dog is worth keeping he is worth fifty cents per annum. Don't you think so Brother "Traveiei?" Watch cut, Mr. Editor, when you bear from my pen again it will be recording the happy event as the result of Cupid's work. Success to the Dispatch and all its readers. I am, March 20, 1905. Billy Felix. |HE above picture of the man and fish is the tradein ark of Scott's E mu Ision, and is the synonym for strength and purity. It is sold in almost all the civilized countries of the globe. If the* cod fish became extinct it would be a world-wide calamity, because the oil that comes from its liver surpasses all other fats ia nourishing and life-givingproperties. Thirty years ago the proprietors of Scott's Emulsion found a way of preparing* cod liver oil so that everyone can take it and get the full value of the oil without the objectionable taste. Scott's Emulsion is the best thing in the world for weak, backward children, thin, delicate people, and all conditions of wasting and lost strength. Send far free sample.
