The Lexington Dispatch. | Wednesday, March 15,1905. t St. Petersburg Knovs Worst. St- Petersburg, March 10.?The extent of the Oleaster to General Europatfcin's army is as yet unknown here, but it is feared that the worst possible has happened. It is known that Field Marshal Oyama succeeded in closing his iron ring around at least the larger part of Kuropatkin'a army. Details of the disaster ere not in the posseseiou of the officials here because of the fact that communication with Mukden has been cut beyond any doubt. No word has arrived here from the army dated later than o o'clock yesterday afternoon. At that time the situation of General Bildering, who commands the rear guard, was extremely desperate. Ail accounts that have been received agree that ihe battle of yesterday mu*t have beeu fought under most dreadful conditions. A dust storm of hurricane violence was blowing daring tb* entire battle, concealing friend from foe, while through the opague yellow veil, streams of wounded and camp followers plodded DortwanJ. This morning the war cffice waa beaeiged with inquiries for news, but had little consolation to offer the pitiful liquirers. Ail the papers are filled with long liets of those killed duriug the earlier days of fighting and the churcea are crowded with wives, mothers and sisters, praying that their loved oneB might b9 spared. At last all classes of Russian seem to have been joined i i one common grief. All hope of Kuropatkin waiting for an opportune moment to strike and convert defeat into victory has been abandoned, and the papers in dolorous strains chronicle the last, and worst reverse the Russian arms have ever sustained in the history of toe country. - Incredible Brutality. It would have been incredible brutality if Chas. F. Lemberger, of Syracuse, N. Y., had not done the best he could for his suffering son. "My boy," lie says, "cut a fearful gasb over his eye, so I applied Bucklen's Arnica Salve, which quickly healed it and saved his eye." Good for burns and ulcers too. In my cxtemity a friend advised me to use Ch mberlaiu's Cough Remedy. I took several doses that day, kept right on talking tiirough the campaign, and I thank this medicine that I won my seat in the Council." This remdv is for sale bv The Kaufmazm Drug Co. Shooting Near Bateslmrg. Batesburp, March 8.?Today on Mr. Milton Prater* place, about five miles from here, in Saluda county, Mr. Drayton Prater and a negro, Jack Ioabinent, got into a difficulty. It seems that the negro had cursed one of Mr. Dravton Prater's children and when Mr. Prater spoke to him about it the negro became furious and picked up a piece of timber and told him be would burst him open. Prater picked up a piece to defend himself, and the cegro hit Prater on the arm. At this juncture Owen Prater, a son, came up and shot the negro iu the abdomen with a pistol.
