Rucker, which o> curred several weeks ago. Mr. Backer * was one of the oldest inhabitants cf the county. He resided near the line of Lexington and Orangeburg counties in the neighborhood of ?- Swansea. He was a prominent citizen of the community in which be resided and was loved and esteemed by his friends and neighbors for bis many sterling qualities of character. One day last week while a big crowd was in tbe Lexington Department Store purchasing there tbeir Xmas goods a general conflict ensued between tbe manager and tbe clerks of tbe Department Store on one side and tbe tremendous crowd of customers on tbe otber. A Double Wedding. r There was a double wedding at the parsonage of tbe Main street Methodist church in Columbia last S Wednesday, in which two of Lexington's charming daughters were two of the principal actors. Miss Daisy Earhardt and Mr Thomas Herron and Miss Lena Harman and Mr. Robert Hubbard were united in tbe bonds of wedlock, by the R^v. W. I. Herbert, pastor of the church. The > marriage of Miss Earhardt waB expected. but that of Miss Harman t took be: numerous friends, as well s& ber parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Ha'man, completely by surprise.
