? MM??i The Lexington Dispatch. Wednesday, January 6, 1904. Very Important. "Speaker Cannon, of the House Representative?, has given Congressman Lever an assignment as a member of the committee on agticulture. While this is the only appointment Mr. Lever received, it is upon an important committee and places him where he can be of benefit to the great majority of his constituents. And there is no doubt that he will use every opportunity that offers in the interest, not only of the farmers, but. those of every other occupation.'' ?Sumter Herald. We take the above from the Sumter Herald. Toe District should congratulate itself upon the fact' that Congressman Lever has been assigned to a committee of so much importance to its agricultural interests, and to th<? industrial development of the State and South. This Committee takes rank with the most important of the House Committees, and there is always an earnest contest < for assignments on it, especially between members from the South, representing Agricultural Districts. Through the recommedations of this Committee to the house, the Department of Agricultural which is doing mnoh fnr the education of the farmers and the development of the farming interests of the country, receives its power. It is particularly gratifying to have southern members on this Committee for they well understand the peculiar needs and possibilities of the southern farmers; and we feel sure Congressman Lever will devote his best efforts to briDgiog to the attention of the Committee and Congress the vast agricultural resources, both of his District and the entire State. It was upon this same Committee that the late and lamented Dr. Stokes / served with so much benefit to his people duriDg his. congressional career, and it is very pleasing to the f friends of young Lever to know that the leadership of the House'regards his ability so favorably? as to place him in the same seat at the committee table which bis distinguished predecessor occupied?and this after so brief a service in the house. .RepresentativeAVUliamp, tne present Democratic leader on the floor of the House, left this Committee only this year when he was elevated to the minority leadership. That our Representative should be selected for this place is a high compliment, both to the District and to him, and the Dispatch wishes to extend its heartiest congratulations to our young Congressman, and to wish him a career on the Committee, brilliant for himself, and beneficial to his State and District.?[Editor Dispatch ] .1 % . What the Moon Can Tell. A clear moon indicates frost. Aduil looking moon means rain. A single halo around tbe moon indicates a storm. If tbe moon looks high, cold weather may be expected. If the moon looks low down, warm weather is promised. The moon on her back always denotes wet weather. A double halo around the moon means very boisterous weather. If the moon changes with the wiDd in the east, then shall we have bad weather. If the meon be bright and clear when three days old, fine weather is promised. When the moon is visible in the daytime then may we lock forwaid to cool days. When the points of the crescent of the new moon are very clearly visible, frost may be looked for. If the new moon appears with its points upward then will the month be dry, but should the points be downwarn more or less rain must be expected during the next three weeks.
