The Camp assembled in tbe court house on April 29tb, 1903, at the appointed hour and proceeded with business in the usual form. After prayer by Comrade T. S. XOJ4UI wuu IU. Harman were elected delegates to the State re anion to be held in Columbia on May 13, 14 and 15, with the following alternates: Col. D. T. Barr, and F. W. Oswald. Comrades George W. Reeder and ' M. D. Harman were the delegates elected to attend the re-union on May 19, 20 and 21, with power to appoint their own alternates. The delegates to attend the re-union at Leesville, the dale of which has cot yet been fixed, are D. W. Hite, A- E. Derrick, D. T. Barr, John J. Shealy and Enoch Swygert. The alternates being D. J. Hallman, J. C. Hartley, Rev. W. D. Quick, J S. Der- . rick and Maj. H. A. Counts. Comrades James E. Hendrix, H. A. Meetze, Rev. W. D. Quick, end M. D. Harman were constituted a com- j mil tee to confer with Camp Harman, j Sons of Veterans, and the surviving members of the Ladies Monumental Association, to arrange serservices and programme for Memorial Day, as suggested in the last issue of the Lexington Dispatch. A letter was received from Mr. E J. The matter of township enrollment committee was discussed and the same was referred to Commandant, M. D.Harman, with power to appoint the committees. Comrade J. Ed. To the Editor of tbe Dispatch: The health of this community is exceedingly good at present with the exception of a few cases of mumps and whooping cough. You can bear tbe Toung folks "barking" all around. r\f farmers nro through planting cotton. But little corn haa been planted. Farmers are very far behind in their work on account of the inclement weather. The prseent high price of cotton will doubtless induce many farmers to plant more cotton and less bog and hominy. But I warn tbem to not let this "rise" fool tbem for tbey may plant more and then take 5 cents for it this fall. Mr. W. P. Drennan, of Anderson county, visited freinds near Peak last Sunday. Miss Blanche K^zer closed ber school at Summerville two weeks ago and has returned to ber borne. Miss Blanche is an accomplished teacher and is greatly beloved by ber pupils. We hope to see ber back soon. Hon. A. Frank Lever left last Thursday for Bamberg county on business, but will be back in a few days at his home near Wallaceville. A most delightful dance was given of. fh? bnmfi nf Mr. Austin Meetze's on last Saturday night. There was a large attendance. The young folk eDjoyed themselves aDd the music was furnished by the Count's string baDd,the members of which are A B. Counts, C. J. Counts, P. O. Counts and J. H. Amick. The dance was kept up until 12 o'clock. This is right young folk, enjoy yourselves while the bloom of youth paints your faces for the frost of winter will come ail too soon and nip much of the pleasures of life. Mr. T. W. Amick has completed his carpenter work at Blairs, in Fairheld county, and has returned to his home, where he will pull the bell cord ?????? The Spartanburg Journal says that a serious situation is now confronting the cotton mills, not only or that county, but of the entire South, on account of the unprecedented scarcity of the raw mill material and the prevailing high price. A large manufacturer said recenth: "The mills will have to curtail or shut dowD, and we cannot Dot afford to do the latter." Only a few mills have cotton on hand to run them any length of time, and with many of the mills it is but a question of but a few weeks before they will have to buy cotton at the prevailing price, which is the highest known for two years, or will have to shut down or curtail. The cotton crop in this section is now exhausted and whatever cotton is used by the mills will have to be brought from a distance. State Borrowing Money. Columbia Record. The State of South Carolina made arrangements recently to borrow $50,000 and another rate will be made for $25,000 soon, making a total of $75,000 borrowed by May 1 This i3 rather early for the State to be borrowing money, but the State Treasurer thinks it necessary to have it on hand by the first of the month, as be does not wish to run behind in ! meetiner the obligations of the State. o o The likelihood is that the State will have to borrow up to the full amount authorized by law?8300,000 ?before the General Assembly meets again. The Montgomery conference is expected to line up the party in this State for Roosevelt's nomination next year, and the movement to assemble the committee and secure its co-operation is in line with this purpose.
