After suffering for some weeks ! with meningetie, Donald, the little j four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. G. T. Graham, was taken by angels 1 arms to the bosom of Jesus, last ' i Saturday night. His funeral services ] were preached at the home of the 1 stricken parents by the Rev. J. G 1 Gr&ichen, Sunday morniDg and the 4 remains were taken to Columbia and 1 interred in the Catholic cemetery there. Herbert, an aged and highly respected Methodist minister, died at his home in Leesville on last Saturday. He was born in Newberry county on the 30th of May, 1830 He became a member of the South Carolina Conference in 1858 and has spent 16 years as Presiding Elder and 23 years as pastor cn circuits. On account of failing health and the infirmaties of age, he was granted a superannuated relation and took up his residence in Leesville and remained there until his death. H6 has given three sons to the ministry. His living daughters are Mrs. Jan e Havriflfi. wife of President L. B. Haynes of Leesville college and Miss Mary Brice Herbert, a member of the faculty of that college. Ha has fought a good fight and has gone to receive his reward. Liquor Robbsd. A car containing a shipment of liquors for the dispensary at this place was broken into and robbed of a quantity of booze. The robbery was discovered while the car was standing at the depot in this place last Thursday, when Dispenser Simon Caughman went to receive the shipment. Som9 three or four gallon jugs and some case goods were stolen. It is not known when th* robbery occurred, whether in Co lumbia, or while the car was enroute for this place or after its arrival here. Six sacks of meal and other goods were stolen Thursday night also at the Depot, belonging to Mr. C. E Corley. There is much complaint by the merchants of goods being stolen while in transit and there is a much needed work for a good de ective along this line. i j . a j m j interesting to sportsmen. C., Dec. 8,1902 A house on Mr. Willie B. Taylor's farm, in the Rocky Well section of Hollow Creek township, occupied by a negro family, was burned one day last week. The mother had gone to Mr. Taylor s house for water, leaving her three children, one of whom was an infant, at home. During her absence the house caught fire in some manner and burned down with its sontents. Jefcoat, of Pelion, were in town Wednesday night seeking to enter the doors and ''learning to keep the secrets" of Odd Fellowship. The Royal Bumper was as festive as a kid, but both managed to ride by swinging first to his beard and then to his fail, with an occassional hug of the neck.
