???ggminilll IMMB?WiBMM?B The Lexington Dispatch. Wednesday, November 12, 1902. Sew Shall the Farmer Proceed? Southern Cultivator. We are very often met with the remark that our advice, and that of many of oar correspondents, is all right for the large farmer, but it is not suited for the small farmer. Having only one horse, they do not eee bow it is to do the good work we plead for. A correspondent in another column is much exercised upon this point We are glad he has called onr attention to it. We have repeatedly said that the deep plowing, which is the foundation of all good farming, can be done with any kind of plow. It does not depend upon the shape or size of the plow or the number of the team; it is simply a question of the depth of the work. If you get the soil broken to twelve or fourteen inches deep, it does not matter what kind of plow did the work. All the one-horse farmer has to do is, just go twice or three times in the same farrow with the same plow. The thing to be done is to get the hard pan broken. A torn plow is not essential to good plowing. It is a great convenience sometimes, bat not at all a necessity. Any plow that breaks the soil will do. Agaio, we wish to call attention to ~; the fact that the subsoiling does not need to be repeated every year; on Tery many farms it never needs to be repeated at all. If yoa do good farming, after yoa have once broken it, the soil will continae to be open and easily broken for all time to come. The bard pan was made by plowing when the soil was wet Now, if yoa never plow again when it is wet yo$ will never make any hard pan. When once you get yoa soil from twelve to fifteen inches deep it will remain so as long as yoa do good /anminn Thfl man vlfh nT)A hnrflA can do this work as well as the man with four. Of course he cannot go over as much ground, but he can go over one-fourth. His one horse can do as much as as either one of the four. What we have said of this point is equally true of all the other farm operations, except, perhaps, the shred^ ding of corn; but if all the farmers would cut their corn, traveling shredders would soon be at hand to do the shredding. It will pay to cat your* corn, even though you never get it -shredded. It can be cut with a feed cotter or a hatchet so as to do quite I well. The trouble iu nearly all our farms is that we are trying to farm on too large a scale; we are trying to go over too many acres to the horse. We mnat An esrta est twrt fhinOB OlfVlPT 4U UO? uv VWV V* V VM4**gw ?ww. eat down the sores, or use more end tatter machinery. Let the farmer who plows one horse make up his to cut down to fifteen seres, and cultivate it as it should be done, rather than continue to try thirty acres and cultivate that as it should not be done. Good, thorough work pays. $100 Rmud $100. The grand jury for Charleston eonnty today found true bill for fraud in the recent primaries against one of the four men charged with false representations and voting at the polls. It seems likely that the same result will follow presentation of the other three cases which the Solicitor has in hand. Perhaps those who. so brazenly plied their nefarious ways in the primaries and laughed at all threats of retribution will take another view of the situation in this development and it is certain that a strong demonstration of the righteous sense of the community has been made in the proceeding. Question Answered. Yee, August Fiower still has the largest sale of any medicine in the civilized world. Your mothers' and grandmothers'never thought of using anything else for Indigestion or Biliousness. Doctors were scarce, and they seldom heard of Appendicitis, Nervous Prostration or Heart failure, etc. They used August Flower to clean out the system and stop fermentation of undigested food, regulate the action of the liver, stimulate the nervous and organic action of the system, and that is all they took when feeling dull and bad with headaches and other aches. You only Deed a few doses of Green's August Flower, in liquid form, to make you satisfied there ie nothing serious the matter with you. Ton can get this reliable remedy at Kaufm&tm's Drug Store. Special Examiner Fred Wannamaker conducted an examination in Charleston on November 4, into the charge made by Chairman Deas of the Republican party, against District Attorney Capers and other Federal office holders, alleging that they were violating the regulations of the departments in regard to their political activity. The examination was not lengthy, but considerable testimony was taken which will be submitted to the department at Washington. Deas has practically fallen from grace since his attack upon President Roosevelt and the admin istration and be was probably influenced by motives of revenge in his charges against the local office holders and Capers in particular. Tie Sest Remedy for Croup. From the Atchison, Kan., Daily Globe. This is the season when the woman who knows the best remedies for croup is in demand in every neighborhood. One of the most terrible things in the world is to be awakened in the middle of the night by a whoop from one of the children. The croup remedies are almost as sure to be lost, in case of croup, as a revolver is sure to be lost in case of burglars. There used to be an old fashioned remedy for croup, known as hive syrup and tolu, but some modern mothers say. that Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is better, and does not cost so much Jfc causes the patient to "throw up the phlegm" quicker, and gives relief in a shorter time. Give this remedy as soon as the croupy cough appears and it will prevent the attack. It never fails and is pleasant and safe to take, x or sale by J.t E. Kauf mann. Will Take Rest.
