The weather has moderated. Some snow is on the ground yet. The criminal court has adjourned. Preparing lands is the order of the day. Seme farmers are hauling cotton seed hulls. We have been visited by another blizzard. Dr. D. M. Crosson was seen on oar streets Monday. Senator Sharp? was in attendance upon court Monday. Next Saturday is the time to register for the town election. Forty-four passenger trains move each day in and out of Columbia. Mr. Bob Lssphart bas returned -home from the South Carolina College. Remember that fresh Baker's bread can be found at the Bazaar at all tim63. Mrs. W. A. Rhidenhour, of King's Mountain, N. C, is visiting Mrs. Alma Geiger. Mr. J. E. Dunbar, a progressive farmer of Danville, was in town last Thursdey. Representative Efir.d spent Sunday with his family returning to Columbia Monday. Miss Nannie Caughman, of the Charter Oak section, visited Mrs. J. D. Taylor last week. The company organized in Columbia to manufacture glass wants samples of Lexington sands. Mr. Haskell Shull, who is attending Wofford College at Spartanburg, was on our streets Monday. The election for Intendant and Wardens of the town will be held on the first Tuesday in March. Capt. Geo. S. Swygert, of Selwood, was in town last Thursday on busi nesa and gave us a pleasant call. The flat at Lorick's ferry was carried away about 10 days ago by the high waters and travel that way has been stopped. Buy your garden and flower seed from the Bazaar. Then you can depend upon having plenty of vegetables and flowers this summer. The Columbia Afternoon Record of the 18th inst., says: "Miss Emma Ballentine, of Lexington, is visiting friends on ?pper Main Street." There are other fishes which will attack man besides sharks, the worst of which are not more ferocious than a small South American fish found in the waters of the Orinoco river. The Inventor of Postage Stamps. The inventor of the gummed postage stamp was a Scotsman, Mr. James Chalmers of Dundee, who in JS34 suggested the adoption of the practical system of aiiixing adhesive squares of paper to envelopes. Mr. Chalmers was ridiculed, and, among others, medical men predicted that the constant licking of gum would ho nroiudioial to the health of the "I *? nation.
