The Governor yesterday received the following petition, having many signatures, he proposes to immediately advise the magistrates nearest the scene of the trouble that they are expected to take up the matter and act in accordance with the law: We, the undersigned citizens of Aiken and Orangeburg counties, living along the Edisto ask your attention to the very great destruction of " * * - - ' * # i fish in the i^dieto oy tne useoi aynamifc:?the quantity in the river has already been diminished greatly and 1 we have reason to fear that if some action is not taken by the govern- j menl to stop the practice of throw- i ing dynamite in the rivers by those .* de&iring to get fisb, that reck fish, | red horse and other species will be a thing of the past in our river. The money drawer and a desk were broken cpm and ransacked The burglars failed to realize more than 7 or S pennies, a few postal sards, two stamped envelopes and the mail for Tacapau and the rural routes Nos. 1 and 2. The mail was carried some distance from the office in the woods and burned up. Two white men were brought to the city and lodged in jail on suspi cion. These parties were found at the spot near where the mail mattewas burned. One of these men gave as his name WilsoD, the other sails under the cognomen of Croft; but ntfttflH that he is the illegitimate son of John D. Rockefeller.
