The charge to the grand jury was confined to the duties of that body and the relations it sustains to the State and the people. West being absent and Stanmore Hite beiDg over age. The Jury Commissioners drew in open court P. H. Gross and Andrew Porth, to complete the panel. Thirty of the petit jurors are in attendance. The indictments against John H. Huiet for receiving deposits for an insolvent bank: against Wash Corley and ethers for disturbing religious worship against Bill Peele and others fur assault and battery, &c ; against Ned Howell for larceny; against Jane WessiDger for adultrj; against Cain Johnson for assault with intent to kill: against Elj ih Popwell for assault with intent to kill, were all nol pressed. The grand jury did not throw out a single bill. W. Pom pie Taylor plead guilty to the charge of stealing a gold watch and chain and 81.25 cash and a pistol from Hampton Cuughman,and received therefor eight months on the chain gang. West Summer told bow he had taken a mule from the stable of Mr. J. J. Fiick and be was given one year on the force. The first trial was the State against George Sawyer, indicted for forgery and false imprisonment. The charge a3 to forgery being quashed before tiial. The verdict was not guilty. Mr. Sawyer was represented by Messrs. Ffird & Dreher and J A Sawyer. This action was brought against Mr. Sawyer in issuing arrest warrant against persons charged with violating the town ordinances. Just as we go to press the case of the Slate vs. Moses Darfts, colored, charged with burglary and larceDy has been finished. He wes found guilty with a recommendation to mercy. Home and Farm.
