Officials decline to discuss this report. Some Jersey City citizens have presented Gen. Miles with a handsome United States flag to be raised over Morro Castle when the Ameri cans capture Havar a. The G<nerl assured the patriots that their wishes would certainly be complied with at an early date. Just to show the nature of the war information sent to Madrid by the Spaniards, we mention that they claim that a big naval battle was fought off Jamaica in which two American vessels were sunk and Admiral Sampson killed. Captain Sigsbee, of the ill fated Mline, is now in command of the United States cruiser St. Paul and is attached to the North Atlantic squadron. He has been assigned to duty on the Cuban coast and one day last week he succeeded in capturing a Spanish vessel laden with coal intended for Cervera's fleet. The whereabouts of Admiral Car vera and his ileet has been very anno) ing to Admirals Sampson and Schley, who are very anxious to know where he can be found. The latest report is that Schley has him bottled up. like a rat in a hole, in the harbor of Santiago. The British steamer Foscolia collide! with the United States cruiser Columbia during the prevalence of a heavy fog last Friday, about eight miles west of the Fire island lights. The steamer was sunk and a hole was knocked in the cruiser large enough to drive a team and coach through. A report reaches us from Columbia that it is probable that President M Kinley will offer Governor El'e be a Brigadier General's commission in the volunteer arn y.
