As this will be a ca?e that will be investigated by the coui Is, we will not comment further and only give the verdict of the Coroner's jury which is as follows: ''That the said Lewis Davis came to his death from a pistol wound from the hands of John Kaminer." "And the jurors aforesaid, upon their oaths aforesaid, do say that the aforesaid John Kaminer did then I'lll TiPwiiS ttLi-.1 tunc jciuuiuuoi i ..... ? - Davis in the manner and form aforesaid against the peace aDd dignity of the State. * Kaminer made good his escape and he is still at large and his whereabouts are unknown to the officers of the law, although a diligent search is being made for him. A Popular Pastor. We are at liberty to make the public announcement that the Rev. J. G Graichen has given notice to the Joint Council of his resignation as pastor of St. Stephen's Pastorate. His resignation will go into effect at the close of the Synodical year. This announcement will be received with the deepest sorrow and sheerest regret, not ouly by the members of his own immediate flock, over whose spiritual welfare he has so long and so faithfully watched, but by Christians of every creed and name and by the community at large. Earnest, energetic and conscientious in the discharge of his every duty, he has entwined himself in the respect, esteem and love of our people that the severance of these golden cords which binds pastor to people, people to pastor and brother to brother is painful to contemplate and overshadows our homes and our hearts with gloom and grief almost indiseribablein their depths. In whatever field of usefulness God may call him to labor, be. and bis estimable and refined family will carry with them the best wishes of this community iu which they have so long lived, for their hap pinese, prosperity and succefs, and j the prayers of God's people will a9 cend to the courts of high heaven as sweet incense iu testimony of his worth as a man and a Christiau. Iu closing we cannot keep back the thought that our town has been made better and purer by reason of his presence here. A Wondnfal Discovery. The last quarter of a century records cany wonderful discoveries in medicine, but none that have accomplished more for humanity than that sterling old household remedy, Browns'Iron Bitters. It seems to contain the very elements of good health, and neither man, woman or child can take it without deriving the greatest'benefit. Brotvns'Iron Bitters is sold by all dealers. Appeal. Au Appeal to the Lutheran Chuiches and the General Public. We the members of the Council of St. Stephen's Lutheran church of the town of Lexington, S. C., having lost our church building by fire on February 8th inst., earnestly appeal to all Lutheran congregations and all interested in the welfare of the noble work of the church to help us in this our time of supreme need. THE SITUATION. It is extremely critical and discouraging. The old church building J had no insurance upon it. Oar new church building which we have been slowly erecting by our limited means is far from being finished, our funds now exhausted and the completion of the new building is imperative. We were solely dependent on the old church building and since i:s distruction, we are without a church home, worshiping temporarily in the Episcopal Church Chapel. HELP NEEI'ED AT ONCE. Our church cannot be finished unless our fiieuds come promptly to our aid and help us. Our people are loyal and willing, but they cannot lift this burden without assistance. Bat if you will now give the helping hand, we can go forward and complete this grand important task. EVERY ONE CAN HELP US. Every one can give us something. The smallest contributed will be most thankfully received and greatl) encourage us. ltev. John G. Graichen, Pastor. Elders?J. E. Heudrix, 31. JD Harman, W. W. Carre, W. P. Roof. To the Editor of the Dispatch: It would be unjust for us not to make mention in your valuable columns of the closing exercises of Hu Ion public school, which took place last Friday, Feb. 11th. The room was beautifully decorated with evergreen and brilliantly lighted with candels. The recitations were certainly splendid. A dialogue by three little gills was not to be excelled. Music between the recitations added greatly to the pleasure of the visiters and it may be truthfully said that j the exercises in general did credit to ! the children and faithful teacher and honor to the parents. After the exercises the crowd enjoyed refreshments on the grounds. The results of the cake walk was that it was won by a Leesvillecouple, and as the sun was nearing the western horizon a large crowd of pirents and pupils gathered around Miss Lena Adams, the accomplished teacher, t-j thank her for her earnest efforts to place the children on a higher plain, and to bid her farewell, and we may say too, that we fed assured no one could make a more successful career than she. If all the teachers in Lexington county were such as she, our public schools would be a greater blessing to us than they are in their present condition. Hulon, Feb. 11, 'OS. L.
