Information has been received of the shooting of Mr. Cordie Kirkland, in the | Dakvilla neighborhood in this county, on j ast Sunday night about 12 o'clock. It is saiil to have been one of the most las tar illy and cowardly attempts to take .lie life of a human that we have had yet ;o chronicle. At about the hour named, Mr. Kirkland vas awakend from his slumbers by some me hailing and on opening the door, the nidnight assassin tired a load of buckshot uto Mr. Kirkland's body. The shot enured the lower part of the abdomen, two of vhich perforated the bladder and nineteen mtered the pubi c rigions causing a fatal vound. Several causes are assigned as an incentve for the deed, the most prominent of ehicli and the most probable is that Mr. virkland has made himself abnoxious to :erta:n men in that neighborhood and they ised this means of removing and silencing lim. Several persons are suspected and rrests will likely be made shortly. The ommunity is aroused and much incensed iver tho shooting. Dr. J. G.
