Crops have been badly represented from this section a few weeks back by some one. I think if the writer would make a close examination cf the crops he would find that they have been damaged by the excessive rain at least one-half, especially is this the case with cotton. Candidates are very thick now. I hope the best men will be elected. There have been men from the Fork here hunting homes in this section. Ihere is room for a great many more people ami we hope they will be fortunate in finding lands to suit them. Joseph Williamson hilled a rattlesnake between five and six feet long, having sixteen rattles, near Shuiupert's mill 011 Cedar creek. Shumpert says he is ready to grind new corn for the people at the -all of his customers and will do the best he can to please them. The people of this section are enjoying good health, with the exception of my old friend, Mr. Joseph raylor, who is scarcely able to get ibout, he being the oldest man in this section by odds. Mr. Henry Spires'youngest daughter ran away and got married a few lays ago. Things are generally lively. Fodler pulling is now the order of the lay. ttAugust 14, 181)4. OBITUARY. She was baptized and confirmed n the Evangelical Lutheran church ery early in life, and remained a insistent member of the same till ler death. She was twice married; the first ime to Dr. Samuel Hiller, who pre;eded her to the spirit land by the ( space of 29 years. She was next ( carried to Mr. Geo. Derrick, who i lied about four years ago. From 1 hese unions were born 9 children, 6 Doys and three girls, all of whom are still living. She was the graudnother of 32 children, two of whom ire dead, and one great grandchild. Thus one by one, we are borne , icross the mystic river from whence 1 30 traveler has ever returned. The victory is won, and heaven, the Chris;ians's goal, is reached by one who aas been redeemed by the Saviour's lood. Her death was not expected, 3ut she passed away repeating, 'Nearer my God to Thee."
