Rev. S. B. Jones has resigned the presidency of the Columbia Ft male College His successor has not yet been appointed. All the Reform candidates for Governor except John Gary Evans and W. H. Ellerbee, having withdrawn, the choice is narrowed down to the above two with the chauces largely in favor of the former. Mr. Woodward, now a valued member of the Staff' of the Augusta Evening Herald, has become one of the editors and mauagers of the Aiken Times. If a man voted for "Weaver electors for president, the Third party candidate, and signed a call for a Sr/rfn"Amvention in behalf of_this Third party candidate, would you call him a Third partyite or a Democrat??Newberry Herald. No. Neither can you call a man who signed the call for the Independent State Convention and voted for Judge Haskell in 1890 a Democrat. The law requires that the witness and juror accounts should be item ized, bat they do not appear so m the report of the Treasurer, published in this issue of the Dispatch. The intention of the law is, that the tax payers should have the fullest information in reference to the expenditures of the funds of the county and to lump the accounts will defeat the purpose of the law and deprive the tax payers of a right which that law gives them. Unless executive clemency inter feres to save Carpenter, the famous Edgefield murderer, he will have to hang and that soon. Carpenter's case was before the State Supreme Court last week and the Court acted promptly upon it. The effect of the action of the court, was to remand the case to the Circuit Court for the purpose of having a new day assigned for the execution of the death sentence already imposed. In the meantime everything possible will be done to have it commuted to life imprisonment in the State penitentiary. The Spartanburg Herald says that if it is proposed to organize the Hampton Democratic League for the purpose of making a factional fight in State politics, or reading out of the Democratic party in South Carolina men who refuse to accept certain interpretations of sundry planks in the National platform, it is not in favor of the movement. It seems to us that the sole aim purpose, and intention of the "movement' is to read out of the Democratic party certian men who do not accept certain interpretations of the Chicago platform, and to get in power again in this State. It would be an act of wisdom on the part of the State Democratic Exetive Committee to abolish the campaign meetings thi3 year. Nearly every voter has made up his mind already whom he will support for the various State offices, hence no good whatever can come of these meetings and much evil can possibly result from them.
