in Grand Rapids Michigan.
What I like about these "Knights
| of the Road*' is that they are great
f fellows for secret societies. Most all
the drummers belong to every thing
that is going from that of the "Grand
L Knights of Diamond Garter," down
to "Sons of Intemperance." I am
H quite a hand for all such mysterious
things myself, so I get solid with
all the boys. My old friend Crookston
called on me the other day to
see if I needed any drugs and to
hjifeTa visit. We had a jolly old
-fim? \Vhi1o wfl w?re sitting in the
H office a chap came in and wanted to
borrow $2 on account of a remittance
not coming to him as he expected.
I told him my $2 I kept to lend was
in now, being sent in the day before
by Johnny Mclntyre, but I never
lent it except to drummers. He said
W "That's me." I gave him the grand
hailing sigh of an Odd Fellow, which
WF he tumbled to. Then I came to the
great "hair in the soot" grip of a
Pythonic. He tumbled. Then Crook
iBl gave him G. B. of the Sons of Malta,

ft." This is a chemical term, mean"waters."
Then Crook stuck

How was you next handled ?
I was put straddle of a goat made
out of a 2x4, and trotted nine times
around the room by four worthy
brothers, and then trotted in front of
the Left Bower for further instructions.
How did he instruct you ?
To approach a customer in three
upright regular steps with my busi?

How was you then disposed of ?
I was again seated on the cake of
ice in front of a dry goods store, and
made to take the following horrible

A copy cf Dun & Co's reports,
open at chapter Muskegon. Upon
the open book rested a pair of drug
scales, in one pan of which rested
ten pounds of concentrated lye and,
in the other sat a small silver jackass.
What did this emblem signify?
The scales indicated the balance
between debtor and creditor. The
emblems represented de abilities and i
assets of bankrupts.

specialty of folk lore have lately been
making-inquiries about the malady
which the country people called
spring fever. It is a genuine malady
though more disagreeable than
serious. Yet it should be taken note
of. While the scientists are inquiring
about the tone of the malady,
those who are suffering the lassitude.
nervousness and melancholia, that
are its symptoms, should run the
disease out of their systems by means
of that more subtle scintist and folkourest?S.

the system in such condition that it
