"We alius uster think Jce Bean a fairish sorter man, An* built upon a purty plnrub an' perpendicular plan; We made him selectman an' squire, sent ; him to general court; Whatever post of trust he had he alius held the fort. We sought a guvernor last year, we scoured the state through clean. We couldn't find no better man, an' pounced on neighbor Bean. I nomemated him mvself, ves, veiled out loud an' piain: l,l nomerate old Joseph Bean?a man without a stain!" An' then the big convention roared, hur- j rahed, an' slipped an' yelled; It took the clieerman half an hour afore the 1 noise was quelled. You'd think the way they yelled an* roared an' pounded there like sin: Joe Bean he was a perfect man an' angel j Gabriel's twin. But nex' day the papers hinted that his mother starved to death, An' Joe wouldn't give her food enough to keep her mortal breath; An' then another paper said he uster beat j his wife, An' how she hid out iu the barn that she might save her life. They said he was an infidel, an" anarchist an' snide, An' said it looked suspicious that ar way j his father died. An' then they said the hoss he driv should 1 pain his guilt soul; It looked exactly like the hoss Jed Butterfield had stole. They said Ned Jones, the peddler, found murdered on the greeu, The last lime ho was seen alivo was seen with Joseph Beau; They said the Baptis' meet'n' house burned to the ground last May, j Was lighted by a certain man- but they ' didn't like to say. ; But Joe was 'leeted gnvernor, and now he j rules the state, But he won't never be the same to me, I c&lkerlate; I uster think him honest, an* pure, an' just and good, ^ But now I'm kinder 'shamed to live in the same neighborhood. 1 , i > .'* * " . Of course not, but such a law need not be enacted for the Democratic party only. Let it be enacted for both parties, bearing equally on each. Such a Bill did pass the Senate at the last session of the Legislature, with the following title: "A Bill to authorize the Officers or Representative nf uriv "Pnliti/?ni T^nrtv tn onnlifv their Agents or Managers of Primary Elections, and to Provide for the Punishment of Frauds aud False Returns in Regard to the Same." Although the Bill, after a heated discussion in the House was defeated by that body, it would seem that the Senate thought that the State has a ''right to pass a law as to how Democratic candidates should be nominated," at least so far bs protecting that party, or any other political party, from "frauds aud false returns" are concerned. If the State has this right it has the further right to pass a law providing punishment for in timidation and all other offenses that may be committed at a primary election, if io violation of the State election laws.?The third and last Section of the Senate Bill alluded to, readf as follows: Sec. 3. That any violation of the oath so administered and taken at any snch primary election, and any false count, statement or return, shall be regarded as an offense against the laws of the State dov in force in regard to tbe conduct of elections, so far as the same may be applicable to such primary election, and shall be punishable, on conviction, as now provided in the General Statutes for the punishmeut for the violation of election laws. The provisions of this Bill, or some similar Bill, may yet be enacted, and we think should be. If | ail eyes were normal, that is perlectly shaped, then i* would be an easy matter to get H^H^B i glasses, a person by stating his or her age would receive the number oi glass correspond: ing to that age and be suited exactly. But unfortunately there are few eyes perfectly t. normal, ami sometimes we find a person ofiilty and a child ol twelve years of age wear- _^,v?^BB^^^H ing the same number of glasses, the reason being that the childs eyes were very yooxj^ | while tin- older person's were very good. Again we often find a different strengthiJfrtmT |H^B i right and left <\\e of some person. Again we find persons who complain ot xierefi^eing able to get a glass to suit them perfectly. 'J'bis is owing to a peculiar nialfor?uation of I their eves which ordinary glasses will not remedy. When fitting cases of thiff kind?by I ! a new process ?we make a careful measure of the eye and grind a glass speciality to suit. ^^^B By this system we have made persons see w-11. who thought that nothing coujld be done i for their sight, if your eyes give trouble, call on us and be fitted properly. J [ The BraziUian Axis Cut Pebble Spectacles and Eye Glasses are the FfiNEST and I ' BEST on the market. They are made from natural stone, so hard that tbeyj do not be- j^Bfl come scratched. They keep out heated rays ot light, and are soft, cool, and ^^^B i the eye. We sell them. Send for Circular, or call when in the city. I P. H.
