While Vr Ri ! ? I ti 11 Neal, .*
highly respected citizen of the

was in town Monday, John Gill,
a negro tenant on his place,
knowing of his absence from
home, went on the promises and
after maxing t?n improper remark
to Mrs. Neal intimated
his fiendish purpose. Mrs.
Neal rau into an adjoining room
seized a shot gun and ruet the
negro as he was advancing iuto
the house. On seeing the gun
in her bauds the negro turned
and fled. Mrs. Neal reported
the afTair at once and soon the
men of the neighborhood , highly
incensed, were scouring the
woods for the brute . The pun

of this the negro was unaware.
The Sheriff was promptly

haste to the scene of trouble to
secure the uegro in case he was
captured and prevont a lynching,
which seemed highly probable
from the state of mind of
the people at that time. The
negro could aot be found and
Deputy Sheriff Hunter returned
home that night. Search is still
being made for the negro.
