The evidence was very ( conclusive of deliberate murder, j, although the prisoner put up the | plea of self-defense, and had deceased's wife, who was his sister and an eyo witness, to baek him up in his self-defense theory, but j <he contradicted so flagrantly her | testimony given before the coro nor that she made no impression ( r>n the jury, except that she was J lying. At the coroner's inquest ? her testimony was against her brother and in favor of her hus- J band, whom hor brother had shot ' < down. At the trial today she told it quite differently and ad- ; mitted she was lying when she testified beforo the coroner. The solicitor ought to take action in such cases and prosecute for per- J jury. .
