Washington, Sept. S.?Cablegrams were received at the State and Navy Departments from Minister Lcishman, at Constantino pie, and Admital Cotton, commanding the American sqtiadron now in Turkish waters, respectively giving an account of the riot which occurred at Beirut Sunday. Bear Admiral Cotton's cablegram is dated Beirut, Sept. 7, and is as follows: "Violence and bloodshed bo tween Mohammedans and nativo Christians occurred at Boirut Sunday. Six Greek Christians, two Mohammedans and two Turkish soldiers killed; three Greek Christians, three Mohammedans and three Turkish soldiers wound ed seriously. Other murders reported. Blag lieutenant and I'ni ted States consul wore present Sunday a n d Monday in the disturbed quarter and verify details of statement. Turkish government willingly afforded facility for their investigation and guard; promise 1,000 more Turkish soldiers. Turkish soldiers present sulliciont if properly dis posed of to bandlo situation at Beirut. Well patrolled and all (piiet Sunday night and to day, Monday. Turkish Governor promises to do all in his power to restore authority. Many houses closed and business suspended. 1 have prepared to land force for protection of property of American citizens if situation demands. Will act with caution. Trosont trouble duo to animosity between inimicnhlo and native Christians, and failure to control crimes." Fifty Thousand Massacred, Every Bulgarian Village Destroy* ed - Kef ogees Dying of Starvation by the Thousands. Sofia, Sept. 8.?All reports from the villayet of Mouastir agree iu describing the situation tis appalling. Between 30,000 and 50,000 Bulgarian inhabitantH are believed to have been massa cred by the Turks and every Bulgarian village in the villayet lias been destroyed. The refugees in the mountains and forests are dying of starvation by thousands. At present it is impossible to ob tain precise figures. The revolutionary headquarters estimate that 30,000 Bulgarian men, women and children have been killed, while at least the same number of refugees are regarded as an underestimate and officials incline to the bolief that the massacred number 50,000. In government circles here the situation is viewed with incroas inn; alarm. It is reliably reported that the Turkish forces in Macedonia number ;>00,000. It is considered impossible that such a force has been assembled merely to crush the rebellion. It is fear ed that the Sultan is meditating an attack on Bulgaria.
