Eugene Funderburk. ?MeNinch, the marble man, has erected at the grave of our late esteemed Clerk'of Court, W. S. L Porter, a handsome monument, of W. O. W. design. It is one of the handsomest monuments in the new cemetery and is altogether a home product?the granite being from the quarry on the Strait place aud the workman, ship being that of a home man. The superiority of both are apparent. The monument will be unveiled with the impressive cer ernony of the W. O. W., at a day to bo 6et by the order in the near future. 0 ?? m* m ? ? Hyatt of Van Wyck ' flUH met with the misfortune of * losing his saw mill and planing * machinery t>y tiro. The tiro oc- k curred last Friday night and is 1 supposed to have been accidental. 1 His loss is about $1,000. On 1 Sunday one of his best mules died. It looks as if misfortunes ( never come single. Only last'Au- * gust he had a saw mill burnod 1 and had no insurance. His friends ' sympathize with him in his heavy * losses in such rapid succession. * Death of Mrs. Lucy Ma_key. Died, at the home of her fath-> er, Mr. It. J. Lowry, near Kershaw, on Thursday night last, 1 Mrs. Lucy Mackey, aged about 32 years. After the death of her J husband, Mr. Lum Mackey, which ^ occurred several months ago, 6 Mrs. M., contracted fever which was followed with pneumonia and 1 dropsy of which she died. She ( leaves six children surviving her. i She was a member of the Baptist * church. Her remains were inter- ' red at Laurel Hill cemetery on ' Friday. ( Death of Mrs T. L. Sowcll Mrs. Sallie Sowell, wife of Mr. < Thomas L. Bell, Sr., and was I about 42 years of age. She was 1 a member of the Methodist church 1 1 and a good christian woman.
