The river banks and bottoms present a sight that is borrowing in the extreme. Cotton bales, bolts and bales of cloth, furniture, machine* ry and all kinds of rubbish line the river from Clifton to where it empties into the Broad river at Pinckney. One dead body, that of a woman, was found in the bottoms stripped of all her clothing in the struggle with the surging waters. It was a ghastly sight and seemed to have been the body of a beautiful young woman. Tho body was brought to Jonesville and shipped to Spartanburg for identification. It is reported that two other bodies have been found on the river and in consequence of their decomposed condition they were buried near where they were found. ? The mills are offering good wages to hands and teams to work for them in recovering their propel ty and a great many hands and wagons have gone to the river to work. News of the caluuiity did not reuch the outside world until today, all the means of communica ? tion having ceased. As soon as possible news was sent by couriers to the nearby towns. The Oregon Railway and Navigation company started a relief train with physicians and supplies from Dallas shortly after noon. At 1.30 this afternoon another train of relief started for the scene from this city. Citizens of Portland started a relief fund as soon as the news of the disaster spread over the city, and within a few hours #5,000 was raised. Supplies will tie rushed to Hep per as soon as they can ho assembled. , 300 COFFINS.
