Chief Constable Hammett Talks With Chief Boyle. n Understanding Beached as to C o o|p e r a t i o n of Police ? Crum's Bond. Senior Senator1# Visit. Special to The State. Charleston, March 26.?Chief State Const&ole limn met t has had a satisfactory interview with Chief of Police Bovle. with a view of better cooperation in the enforcement of the dispensary law in tho future. Chief Hatnmett impressed upon tho police official the necessity of making tho blind tigors understand that the two forces aro in perfect harmony and propo&o to onforco the law to the letter. The police departpartment .has hfeen cooperating with the constables, but tho chiof constable showed that this cooperation can bo moio thorough than it has been, and Chief Boyle has given him assurances of better assistance. For instance, tho liOtior dealers have u wnv r?f l/.o.l. ing their trucks on the Clyde Line wharf and whan the opportunity presents itself they drive rapidly up the stroet and escape with thencontraband stuff. As long as the liquor is 011 the wharf it is in the hands of tho transportation company and, according to tho decision of tho federal court, it is protected by tho law of interstate commerce. The services of a police officer on tho street leading from the wharf could be of much use and assistance to the constables in stopping tho violators of tho law, and tho assignment of a special officer to that duty will lie made in the future. Tho chief constables wanted the officer stationed on the wharf in order to cooperate tho better with the con Btables, but Chief Boyle would j not agree to this request. Collector of the Port Crum has received notice of the approval of his bond. He will probably qualify on April 1. All the ofli it . .!..ii : _- i miw iu tue civil ootviuo uuu Crum cannot put in any of his friends unless vacancies occur. The vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. Barnwell, who will not serve under the colored man, have to be filled from the eligible list. Arrangements uro practically complete for the business men's dinner to Senator Tillman on April 3. The senator will deliver the address to the graduates of the South Carolina Medical college on tho previous evening. J. B. AFTER LA GRIPPE WHAT?
