The Moriah colored Methodist church four miles South of town was the scene of a fracas between two negroes Sunday night last which will probably result in the death of Joe Brown. After the service Brown had something to say to John Thompson, anothe.' negro, calculated to bring on a fight but Thompson left him and started by a little path to his home. He had not gone far, as the report goes, when Brown overtook him and began slashing him with a razor, cutting him down the side of the head, the shoulder and arm. Thompson had no sooner felt the i keen blade of Brown's razor than i he stabbed him in the abdomen < and closing in stabbed him again J in the left side of the back. < Thompson was arresied early i Monday morning and lodged in i jail. The wounds of Brown are thought by the attending physicians, Drs. Poovey and Funderburk, to be fatal. , Two killings and one suicide . have occurred at this church within the past ten years. Last Monday morning Jnko Hayden, who lives several niiles out of town, went down to the platform, got a sample ot the cotton and sold it to tho H. B. & M. Co. He got his ticket, had it weighed up and went hack to Mr. Heath for a settlement when he .was questioned closely, and finally let the c?t out of the bag.
