Local Matters Rev. J. M. White will preach at Unity next Sabbaib?the lifth Sunday. Mr. K. H. Huey and Miss Kato Huey of the Unity section are visiting friends in York County. Airs. J. E. There were 19 accessions to tho church. Misses Bessie and Daisy Bennett have returned from a pleasant visit to relatives und friends at Heath Springs. Mr. Robert' Starnes who moved to Texas from this county about six years ago, is back on a visit to relatives. Mr. J. B. Gibson has returned from Florida and resumed his old position of clerk at the L. & C. depot. Hagins and family, who moved out to Texas the first of the year, have returned to old Lancaster and tbey seem as glad to be hack as their friends are to welcome them back. Mr. Chas. T. Burns, of Washington, D. C., is here on a visit to relatives and friends. Everybody in old Lancaster is always ? glad to see Charles. He is one of Lancaster's young men that she feels proud of. - Mrs. Jane Hilton, wife of Mr. John Hilton, was taken to the Stato Hospital for the insane at Columbia last Monday. Quite a sonsation was caused Sunday by a dog belonging to ltev. C. R. Carnes, about two miles west of town, bringing to Mr. Carnes' house the bones of a human hand. Dr. W. G. White pronounced them the bones of tho loft hand of a human being. Sheriff Hunter with others made diligent search of the woods in tho vicinity but no other human bones could be found. There seems some mystery connected with the find. Gurduor, who moved from Flat Creek township, this county, into Chesterfield county about the first of this year, died last Sunday after an illness of several weeks of fever. He leaves a widow and a little babe surviving him. His remains were in terred Monday at Flat Creek Church. He was about 24 years of age. ?Mrs. Janie Sims, wife of Mr. James Sims of the Longaville section, died last Sunday aftor a protracted illness. She was' a daughter of the lato YV. I. Tulbirt and was about -24 years of age. She had been married lass than a year, and the deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved husband in his sad affliction. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church and loyal t> the M ister's cause. Her remains were interred at Pleasant Plain church last Monday, after funeral services by Rev. R. J. Blackmon. ?Mrs. Aiken, wife of Mr. John Aiken, who bimie to this county from Chester, (lied at the cotton mill hero last Saturday after an illness of several months of tuber 0 culosis of tho bowels. Lake City, Aug. 22.?State Constable ROwel was hero yesterday?on legal business. Any way, late in the afternoon some one reported to him that Mack Sauls, a farmer not very fur from Lake City, was in town with a case of whiskey and was selling it. Vlr. Rowel seized it and put it in Mr. J. M. Sturgeon's store behind the counter and went off. While he was away Sauls slipped in, goLthe whiskey and started ofT just as Rowel was returning. Sauls ran and Rowel took after him. When Sauls saw that Rowel was going to overtake him ho threw the liquor down and broke the bottles. Then he jumped in his road cart and left.
