A Speciul to The State from I j Smoaks, on Friday last gave this i information: Smoaks, Colleton County, June 12. ?The body of an unknown i! white man was found by some negroes in a secluded spot near ( this place Tuesday evening late. , He had been dead for some time I ( and was not recoguizable, having , been very badly disfigured by buzzards, and it was by means of lliese that he was found. Magistrate Wilson was notified and on ( Wednesday held an inquest. It i was learned from the testimony taken, that it was the body of a man giving his name as Henry Hears and who said he was from Co'umbin, S. C. He was passing himself as a preacher, and from conversations held with him, it was evident that his mind was unbalanced. Dr. ?J. M. Strickland held the post mortem examination, but could tind nothing to . show that ho had met with a violent death. The finding of the jn 1*3' was that ho camo to his death from causes unknown to the jury, but that their belief was that his death was from natural causes, as there was no evidence of foul play. The community is very much wrought up ovnr * the ghastly find, and an offort will be made to find out more of this man. Yesterday all mystery surrounding the matter was dissipated when the grief- stricken mother of the victim was seen. Sho lives here in tho mill district. Henry Hears was reared in Hollow Creek township in Lexington county. Ho was o5 years of ago. Ho was tirst married about eight or nine , years ago, and lost his wife and child.
