The report of tins historical committee headed by (Jen. Leo, j was adopted. It recommends: 1. The complication of material that will h?lp the histoi inn and tho blmlent to understand the Civil war its cause and its results. 2. The preparation of h source hook for cellaterial iif>e and reference in school and libraries. '<$. Tho preparation of brief bio graphics and school histories that will do justice to southern leadership, southern character, southern nrironment and southern development. The greater part of tho report was devoted to tho considerate ti of these recommendations, A proposition to change tin' Confederate memorial day from May 25 to June .'5, the birthday of Jefferson Davis, precipitated considerable debate. The pros ent plan, which was lixcd upon by southern women and which gives the States the right to set their owu date, had many supporters. The resolutions were amended to fix June J, but to allow any Stale desiring a different date to take individual action, and in this form was passed. Gen. C. I. Walker, of South Carolina, then paid a very high tribute to Hampton. The credentials committee reported that TOT camps had paid their per capita tax and were en titled to 2,252 votes. Seven huudred and forty-eight camps were reported in arrears. The report of the Davis monument committee showed slow progrofcs. It was stated there was $J5,000 on hand and that ?40,000 more was needed. Department commanders were urged to prosecute the work of collecting funds. Work towards securing funds for the proposed southern woman's monument was also progressing slowly. The report appealed to southern chivalry to see that this monument should become a fact. The leport of the committee on battle abbey of which Gen. Clement A. Evans is chairman, con sumed the rest of the afternoon session. It was very voluminous and was supplemented l>y ;i history of the movement even more lengthy. The report showed that of the $200,000 neccessary for the reconstruction of the museum the treasury now holds $170,053. In view of the fact that the Confederate parade is set for tomorrow morning it was decided to hold no session hut adjourn until Friday. One of the touching incidents of the day was the presentation of Judge John 1*. lieapan, the last survivor of the Davis cuhiuet, to the veterans. "It may ho the last time for many of us to see this vcrnerahle man. I lis health is frail and we ourselves are getting along in years," said General Gordon as ho half supported the former postmaster general with his arm. The white haired survivor of that historic cabinet howed repeatedly hut did not speak. "Nearer, My Good to Thee," was then sung by the audience, following which eulogistic resolu tions for (ten. Hampton were adopted. "Old Tigc" Cabell was called for and added his tribute while his eyes were tilled with tears.
