He says he found the conditions satisfactory everywhere except at Samar, where continuous ruin during the past two aionths, retarded the campaign, especially against suck an elusive enemy. Tho condition of Capt. Porter's marines, who took part in the expedition into the interior of Samar, is muck worse than previously reported. They suffered fearful hardships and were without food for several days. Mr. W. It. Cox. of this c.itv sad news, vesierday, of tbe shocking death of his grand-daughter, Miss Minnie Rose which occurred on the hanks of tbe Neuse river io Johaston county Saturday. She went, in company, with her brother's wife, down to the river bank to carry dinner to her brothers, who were having a raft constructed. In some unknown way the log, on which they bad. taken a seat, started rolling and her sister jumped to the log above which started it rolling.
