Tha lady's faca and houldar wara horribly bruiaad and a piae? of flash was almast savarad from har arm by tha aagro'a taeth. Daputy SharifY Dillingham was notifiad by phona of the crimaabout twa hours aftar its occurranea and want at onca to tha scana with bis blood hauad. Tha dog struck a trail atlha house and fol'owad ii directly to a nsgro ctbia about two miles distant Fire nagraas wara arrested an 1 carried before Miss Kelly, who promptly identified Graar as har assailant. A large crowd had collected and they wara determined to Ij nch the negro, but tha officer succeeded in eludiug thans and brought his prisoner haia through the ceuntry and landed him in jail about daylight this morning. There is no anticipation now of an attenapt to take tha prisoner from the jail but if tha crowd had gotten hold of the negro last night there would undeubledly have tieen another lynching in this county. The negro has talked but little but has practically admitted his guilt. Miss Kelly, the victim, is said to ha in a vary aeriaus conditian. Last spring har home was broken into at night and an unsuccessful attempt at aseaub was made. Since than she has spent tha nights with a neighbor, staying at her own homeOnly in the daytime. It is thought that the negro now m jail is guilty of that crime alao. A. M. C. AUDITOR'S NOTICE. Lancaster, <' H , M, C , D*e 4.1901.
