I MILL "Anarchist Queen Arrested. Chicago, September 10.?Emma Goldman, the Anarchist queen. under whose red banner Leon Czolgoez claims he stands, whose wotds he claims tired his heart and his brain to attempt the assassination of the President, was arrested here shortly before noon today. She disclaimed all hut the slighteat acquaintance with the President's assailant: she denied abso1 # i lately that she or any Anarchists she knew were implicated in any plot to kill the President. She said she believed Czolgoez acted entirely on his own responsibility, i and that he never claimed to have been inspired by her, as he is quoted as affirming. The President, she averred, with a yawn, was an insignificant being to her, a mere hnmae atom, whose life or death were matteis' of supreme indifference to her or to ariv Annrcliial" (V/nlnn/.'/u ? "J O f?V> V was foolish, yet she declared it probably had its inspiration in the misery which the Pele had seen about him. Violence, she \ 9 I said, was not a tenet in the faith of the Anarchist, and she hud not advocated it in Cleveland, where Czolgocz had said he beard her, nor elsewhere. < Alfonso Stutz, the German ef- 1 ficer who was held in custody for three days in Buffalo en suspicion of complicity in the attempt on the life of President McKinley, says he will demand damages for false imprisonment. ECOM A Female Conrict Escapes in a Man's Apparel. She Was a Negress and Was Serving a Second Term for Kobhery? Is a Blood-Hound's Evidence Good in Law if Charlotte Observer. i Raleigh, Sept. 0.?There was a sensational escape today of a negro female convict from the penitentiary early this morning She was one of a gang of twenty women were working in the i garden, which is near a thick woods. There was only one guard and the gang boss was not present. The woman was missed a few minutes after work was begun, j1 and it was found that she had gone , into the woods, dropped her fe- , male garb and departed in men's ! attire. It is believed she had stolen some of the guard's cloth- , iag yesterday and had this on tin? . der her own so it was easy for | her to change. Nothing has yet; been heard of her. She was serving a second terra for robbery. Her robberies were committed in men's clothing. An interesting case, which At- j torney General Gilmer says is absolutely novel in North Carolina, comes before the Supreme Court to-morrow. It is from i Pitt county and involves the ques tion whether the evidence of a hlood-heund is good legal evidence. He was convicted in the Superior Court and appealed on the ground that a dog's evidence was worthless Able lawyers, among them ex-Governor Jarvis, say they stand by the dog's evidence. Atlanta Negro A'ho Felled Czolgosz May he Given Good Berth. t Atlanta, Sept. 11.?The Atlanta negro, .James Parker, who felled the president's assailant at Buffalo, will probably secure a t.icrattve berth from tha administration us the reward of his cuui* Rgeous act. Parker is still employed as a waiter on the exposition grounds, but from press indications there is talk at Washington of provid . ing tha nagro with a government position that will be suitable recognition of his prompt action in knocking Czolgosz to tha floor. The public seems willing to accept the theory that Parker actually saved the life of the president by overpowering the anarchist before he had opportunity to tire t! third time. Purker, according to reports, is being heroized in Buffalo. The clothes worn by him on the day of the shootiag have practically all been disposed of and at Parker's own price. ELLIOT & CRAWFORD.
