There is serious trouble reported
on the Asheville line between

' ings trains were delayed about 10
hours. The longest tunnel on the
' mountain, Swannanoa, 1,800 feet
in length, began caving in at one
end. A wrecking crew and working
train was sent out to repair
the damages. Section Master
Robinson was at work in the tunnel
and in the very midst of the
slide, when the working train

over and killing him instantly.
Every effort possible is being
made by the Southern officials to

are at work as well as all section
sen in the division. Conditions
brought about by the extraordina>

serious that have been experienced
by railway men in many years.

The accident, for it was an acci- 1

and a half. (
The coroner went out to view <
the body yesterday afternoen and j
authorized its removal ^o the i
penitentiary, where the inquest >

It appears that the guards and 1
convicts had just come out of an i
old warehouse where they had I
taken shelter from the rain, and i
1 I
the guards were at the front, the 1
convicts being at the hack of the 1
house. Westbury was handling the 1

had his hand on the trigger with i
the gun leveled in front of him, <
when the rifle went off half cocked. <
Simultaneous with the firing, 1

the house and received the bullet !
in his aide, and was felled in his <
tracks. ! i
Irby had been sentenced some
18 months ago to six years, hav ' i

ind the diligent effort being (

It has developed since the mur- i

Lowry; hut John Jenkins. Ho t
is a York county negro, however, t
is was originally stated, and it t
seems that ho has been living in t
Shelby for several years under t
the name of another York county ^
negro, the real Jim Liwry, who \
has been behaving himself in the (

Legg was tried on April 3, 1895, ;
convicted and sentenced to the

Sheriff Logan, sometime back, | .
got from geod authority,information
to the effect that Jenkins was ,
in Shelby and he wrote to Chief
Jones to arrest him; but was un- 1
