Verdict: Not guilty. ' ' '</ r Seriously Stabbed. Wo learn that on Friday afternoon last, Mr. Bud Love was seriously stabbed in the abdomen, near the naval, by Mr. John Hiuson. Mr. Love, was returning to his home from preaching at White Bluff when he and Mr. Hinson met and tho cutting occurred. Dr. F. C. Hinson was summoned and dressed the wound which was about one inch long and extended to tho cavity.* I)au Duncan Killed Last Sunday On Sunday laHt, in the Primus section, Dan Duncan", col., was shot by Peter Phillips, col., the ball entering his face below the right eye and passing through the brain. Duncan dropped instantly to the floor and was never conscious from the moment he was shot. He died the following day. Phillips was handling his pistol and claims that it went off accidentally. He was on his way to town to surrender to the Sheriff when he was met by the Deputy Sheriff who had started to the scvne. Ho is now in jail. The facts adduced at the inquest wore about as above stated. Duncan was only about 18 years of age. Abstract of Returns for 1901. Albert Sidney Johnston, in Austin. .j A Disastrous Hall Storm In our last issue wo reported considerable damage done by the hail which foil in several sections of the county Thursday night. We thought the damage was great but it was only slight whan compared with that done by hall in the vicinity of Wrstville, just over tho lino in Kershaw county, the same night Wo are told that | hailstones could be gathered up j by wagon loads from tho ground 1 tli? following day and that on at i least nine farms in the vicinity of I VVestville, the owners cannot hope to gather as much as pounds of seed cotton per acre. Nothing but the hare stalks are loft standing. Some of the heaviest losers are Messrs. Thos. Cauthcn, James Cautlien, and Joseph Gardner. Mr. Gardner had one field of sixteen acres in cotton from which he generally gathers about fourteen bales but our informant stated it would he impossible for him to make as much &b live pounds per acre on it this year. The storm extended on to Horn's mill, about fifteen miles from Westville. The same night our old friend, i Mr. W. S. Horton, who lives near Kershaw, had his cotton crop , badly injurod by hail along with ' several of his neighbors. Bailey and John Davis, both colored, became involved in a difficulty about a report concerning the wife of ono of the parties, wheu Bailey used his knife, cutting Davis severely in the arm and stabbiug him to the cavity in the breast. A warrant has been issued for Bailey, who fled immediately after tho difficulty. Washout on S. C. & G Extension. Owing to a washout on the S. C G. Ex. road this side of Riverside yesterday, the mails and passengers had to bo transferred to the freight at that point yesterday Of courso this caused considerable delay.
