Besides being a -plendid lawyer learned in the law, with tine discriminating ability, he is absolutely fearless and unbiased in rendering his opinions. ?Jud??e Hudson knew when he rendered his tamous de cision against the constitutionality of the dispensary law, that it would cost him his position. lie knew that the spirit of the times demanded subserviency and that those in power desire, tools and puppets on itie nencn rattier tnsin men possessed of intelligence enough to understand the law and backbone enough to declare it. To this order (which Williams now uses as his main pretext) both enndidutes ?Trant 1mm and William* ? made their submission, and in public printed curdy, accepted the committee's ruling and urged their friends to vote for them in the third primary. The following is the card publish' ed by Williams in a local paper: Mr. Ivlitor: I wish to again thank the Democratic voters throughout the county for the generous support given me in the primary elections recently held. In my announcement for reflection I pledge myself to a'tide by the result of the primary, and this position I still hold without any reservation. While 1 feel that I was entitled to the nomination, a majority ' of the votes having been cast for me, still the executive committee, with a disposition to be fair to all parties, has seen proper to order another election, I therefore cheerfully submit to their decision. Williams now enters the general election, claiming, of course, to he Democratic, but clearly a rank j independent. Mr Hand and others extinguished it with a bucket of water. At 5 o'clock the 50 bales at the South-, ern platform w< re burned. A half hour later Mr Campbell of the South Carolina and (ieorgia office found a bale of pickings on tire upon bis company's platform.
