Ill C LEDGER. ?' I- . . . Carter,ic KDI i')lt AM) MANAGER. g wkdnksday, .ll'l.y 12, 181)0. |i j For The Ledger. The Summer School. ' Mr. Kihtor:? The Summer 11 School now in progress tit this ( place (U serves patronage and encouragement There has been enrolled about thir*y-five scholars 5 teachers who are teach in <r school 1 ^ I in tlie county. The school iscon?I 11 t * * < 1 by Dr Harrison, professor o; English literature at Davidson College, N. C., and by Prof Hambo of the Graded School at Sumter in this State. These two men are certainly scholars of a high ^ prude, and are well versed in the most approved methods of teaching. The teacher of this county 1 who is not in attendance, and who li e< thus preferred to aviod bims If or herself of this great oppi rtunity of becoming more skilled in learning and in the best mode of imparting instruction, is standing in his or her own light. This is an age of progress, .and the facilities of acquiring knowledge, and of acquiring the art of imparting instruction, in the march of general progress, are as marked and conspicuous, as they are in other fields of knowledge. Every teacher ought to embrace this great opportunity, and reap the benefits offered. It will very likely bo the means, in the future 1 of securing more easily good positions as teachers, and lend to practical success in tho business life of a teacher. Every teacher ought to be prompt in attendance, and carry out. with willing deter ruination, every suggestion of 1 those scholarly instructors. Many ' of the county teachers have never before had such an opportunity of 1 mental improvement, and may not in the future ho so favored. ' The writer has visited the 1 school in its practical working, and has been most favorably impressed with the good work that ^ is bein<_r accomplished. The instuctors are both men of finished education, and appear to be most . conscientious in their efforts to achieve good results. And I would like to say, for the encouragement of the school, that it is composed of good muter ial. The members of the school are hard at work ? making a favoVablo impression on all visitors who are interested in the success of the school and the prospects is that good results will follow. Per-ons of good behavior, who are fond of letters, and interested in c location, would enjoy visiting the chool, and would receive benefit in return. A Visitor. f For The Ledcrer. V\N WYCK ITEMS. A number of our Van Wyck people attended Six Mile church last Sunday afternoon and Heard an impressive sermon, delivered by Dr. Thorn well of Fort Mill. Mr. Editor: The recent showers have called off the atmosphere considerably, and, our people have gone to work ) ight. Our town presents <piite a lively business place at present. Our enterprising and popular physician, Dr ,1 E W Ilaile, broke ground yesterday, and the Georgia buggies are kept busily engaged rolling the dirt to clear tho way for the erection of a mammoth building in which thero will be titted up four handsome store rooms, which will be, when completed, occupied by the live and wide awake business firm of the Farmers Hanking & Mercantile Company, of this place. The Dr was very fortunate in getting Huch I lessees to occupy his .fine rooms, land they were equally as fortunate in getting a person who 1 ...^,.1,1 U..JU nu\iiu UU1IU IUUIIJS BUlUiOie ior I their increasing business. Kershaw is making a great many changes just now, Mr Moore, the barber, had to move his barber shop, to make room for tho now buildings, having occupied a building which was on the lot ' whore tho now building is being erected. He moved into the room occupied by Mr O Floyd, i our insurance agent, and Mr Floyd I moved down on south end in a | room in the Law Range, or the I Temple of Justice. Our Law I Range is quite a popular place, ! notwithstanding it is situated 'quite a distance from the business ' portion of the town. Rent is | cheap and ice water is handy, l^ee Sowell's ice house is in close proximity to the building. Lee sellB ice cheap, and furnishes ice water free. Harry has had several cases be' fore tho Squire this week, in [which he made a good score every time. I think if his business con! tinues to increase until fall as it has for the past few weeks he will get fat. ! 1 don't think our school trusj tees have had any meetings lately. We still have no principal and teachers elected to serve tho on| suing term, but I am provd to say, I lieliove wo will have a I school, uud that the patrons will get a principal that will please a I majority of them. 1 hope they will, any way. There is one thing that 1 can't understand about this school trustee business, and that is tl is, that a man would want to hold on to un office that had no money in it, though some people may think, that it will give them a stepping stone to a higher place, or it may be that they think by holding an office of that kind they would bo enabled to give some o* their friends a position as teacher in tho school. I hardly think such is tho case here. I hopo not, any way. Rumor is current on the streets that our Intendent contemplates resigning his office as Intendent of the town in tho near future 1 I don't know whether this is so or not. Citizf.n. GLORIOUS \KWS I Comes from Dr D C Cargile of Washita, 1. T. lie writes: "Four I bottles of Electric Hitters has I cured Mrs Hrewer of scrofula, j which had caused her great suffering for years. Terrible sores i would break out on her head and face, and the best doctors could give no help; but her cureiscomplate and her health is excellent." This shows what thousands have proved,?that Electric Hitters is the best blood purifier known.
