so that the homestead, when set

Ellerbe's consideration, hot which
of necessity had not received attention.
Of the total number the
governor granted eight pardons
and three commutations. In ten
cases ho has refused to grant executive
clemency. There are as
yet a lame number of applications
on tile which have not received

succeed Mr. Scarborough in the
senate. Hon. Jeremiah Smith,

spoken of as candidates. There
seems to be a sentiment nmon<? the

people fit present to select a man
who is not now in office.
The executive committee met
here yesterday and decided to
make the nomination by convention
instead of by primary. Some
one introduced a resolution requiring
any one now holding an
office first to resign his present
position before announcing himself
a candidate for the senate.
Incendiary Fire.
Mr. 11 Kirk Lowry's cotton
house, near Delphos, was de
stroved by an incendiary tire Inst
Monday night at about 12 o'e'ock.
Mr. Lowry says that the tiro was
of incendiary origin. lie and a

apply the match, and he shot at
the fellow twice, without effect.
He knows the name of the incendiary;
hut does not want it
published. He has procured a
warrant, and is now trying to

skeletons of five human beings. ^

When he storms now against
what he calls 'imperialism" it
may be in a joke like hia storming
