They were arrestee! at the instance of Detective liolloway, who was sent here by the governor to investigate a brutal murder that occurred near town a few weeks ago?that of Eliza Goode the old colored wetnan. Three sterling whilo men and several colored people were examined,hut their testimony showed nothing f irther than that Stelnuker, Kllison and Alton were soen riding near that house the morning of the murder. The News an<l Courier says that Kepresentative Francis 11 Weston, of Columbia, proposes to introduce a hill during the approaching session of the tioneral Assembly which will look to the establishment of the oflice of commissioner of immigration. It is proposed to pay the commissioner a good salary so that a competent man may be obtained. The purpose is to have this commissioner gather all information of resources of the Stale and to distribute this information. It is fuiher proposed to require the commissioner to make visits to Northern ports, especially Now York, and get in touch with desirable immigrants who want homes and who have the means with which to go to work.
