jTHE LEDGER. Th'^low S. Oa.rtor, EDITOR AM) MANAGER. WKDNKSHAV, 1>KC. 14, 1 SOS. Till: LANCASTER < I It Al> EL SCHOOL. Report of tl?? Superintendent loi First (^uartfr of Present Ses sio i-'l'hc Honor Rolls. On ''l idar, December <>th, the examinations on the course foi the first quarter session ' OS-'O? were finished. During the term, at intervals; of three months, two more ex aminations will he held: thus, those who failed 011 the first <Iinirt?r, in any subject, can, by close attention to it and increased application, attain a sufficiently high average on the year's work for advancement in dune to a higher Grade. Parents are requested to examine the reports carefully, note the deficiencies, and require more time given to the home study of those branches in which the pupil is backward. It would help both teacher and pupil for parents to communicate to the former any difficulties encountered by the pupil it) the understanding or preparation < f his studies, that may come to their observation. Th progress of the child is dependent, on an intelligent understanding and co-opera tion on the part of the parent, teachei, and pupil. The work of the school in its first (juarter has been of . ueh character as to hold out the hope ?.>f a very successful term. I nosh to eoinmend the pupils, especially those of the higher grades, for excellent behavior. On the other hand, there are none entirely satisfactory in diligence and ap plication to studies I beg to turn the attention of the people of Lancaster to what they already realize, namely, that our school building is not what it ought to be?in fact it is all that it ought not to he; too small, badly lighted, impossible to \ Wi \ 111*!* I Vf lltint ??? nn.it .'1..*^ uiyni. wi >cuuiiiii;, unhealthy. Thero is no profit nor economy in educating the child's mind at the expense of iu eyesight, lungs, and general health. .Lancaster is behind her neighbors in this one respoct; it is for us to determine when to make a change. The honor rolls for the past quarter follow. The attendance roll requires th.-.t <lnring the sixty days of the quarter, a pupil be neither absent, tardy nor dismissed. On the deportment roll are such a* have no demerits. The scholarship roll has two sections : the highly distinguished, requiring a general average of ! ;"> per cent; and the distinguished, requiring a general average of 1)0 per cent.
