Hampton, was reported to lie in a serious condition at his home at Shandon last night. lie has been in feeble health for some time, and the end was hourly expected last night. Col. Sims was at one time a prominent political figure in the State, and was a very popular official, and has many friends who will regret to hoar of his extremely criticnl condition. ? The total number^in attendance is about 430. A large demand is being made upon the president just now from all parts of the State for catalogues, which possibly indica es that still larger numbers will be enrolled for the second term beginning Jan. 28th. So .Joe Bailey objects to gallant Joe Wheeler participating in the house and still holding his commission in the army and wiii challenge his right to vote. Lancaster is the latest town to take advantage of wheat-planting furor which prevails ever South Carolina. It is to have a roller mill of 30 barrels daily capacity. While excellent graham Hour may be turned out by good corn mills, and the farmers are thus assured of facilities for supplying themselves from their own wheat, it is clear that the establishment of a roller mill in a town capable of convert ing a surplus crop into marketable Hour, mtiat prove a great stimuluB to wheat-growing in its neighborhood. Farmers all around Columbia are planting wheat and thim city needs a mill. If Columbia will take this matter up it can draw wheat from several counties, and there is a profitable local market for all the flour that it can produce. Court here today Miss Lizzh Rivers was bound over in the sun of $'200 to appear later before tin court on a charge of sending ob scene letters through the muil. Miss Rivera is a niece of Capt Edward Moore, a highly respcc table and widely known seafurinj man. The objectionable letter have been sent to many of thi leading ladies of the citv, the casi is a sensational one and will maki a stir unless it is subsequently compromised out of court.
