The two men arrived at (iatl'pey on the southbound vestibule, and as they got oil' the train, Mr. Shelor went back to the end of the last car, where ho saw a Negro in the act of climbing upon the platform. To Mr. Shelor the Negro seemed to answer tin* description of Ryan, and Mr. Shc'or ordered the Negro to get down and surrender. Instead of surrendering, tlio Nc^ro started to run away. Mr. Shelor ordered liitn to halt and iircd a sliot in the ground. The Negro kept going. Next Mr. Shelor tired at hint, the hall entering his bowels through the hip and wringing him down.
