THE LEP^E Tnurkw > Carter E n. ' ?.i . ANAGER. Satiuoay, SKITKMUK IS, 1807. Sl'CCKSSFl'L KOl'ND BALK. No Tare, No Tariff, No Bi?gging, No Ties, All Cotton. Nashville American. The Ameriean Cotton company made experiments covering several hales of round cotton with OS-inch cotton cloth, weighing 15 ounces per yard The tare on these hales will not exceed three pounds per hale. The cloth prdved strong enough and makes a good substantial covering. The cost of this covering will not exceed 30 ' cents per hale, and the strong ar- ' gumcnt in favor of using it is that 1 it is made in the south and can ho j used again for other purposes and | besides it will do away with if i adopted t as it can be to a great profit i, the troublesome question of tariff duties on India jute bagging and imported Liverpool iron ??t cotton. Tiie result of these tests are phenomenal, when it is considered that the old hox hale has to he 'tared" 25 pounds per hale. The weight of the hale of cotton is also approved hy the mannfaetnrers, and hoth the fourfoot length and weight of their standard hale was suggested and urged l?y one of the most "p,'?mi" nent radroad men in all the southern cotton country. ('ol Mike Brown of Barnwell will instal a cylindrical plant there and commence operations the latter part of the present week. Ql'IF.r AT IIA/KLTON. The showing of irreat savings ^row nay i?y nay, as is proven by actual results. The eoinpnny is stickm*; to their standard 425-pounds hales, not because it is to their benefit; quite to the contrary, f??r they turned out a bale at one of their plants in Texas yesterday weijjhinir ~uo pounds, with a density of a fraction over l'? j oumU to the cubic foot. But these larjie puckaires, they claim, arc not only inconvenient to handle, but they ere an injustice to labor. Thw 4lid-pound bales are made to con form to the strength of a man, and all railroad laboring mm hail this change with approval. Some of the most prominent advocates of this new system, and foremost anonir them Mr Stephen A Kniirht of lYovidcnce, K I., have ur?red the company not to increase (he weight of the covering TORCH TALK. r<> Make (iame of the Millionaires and Then Hair Tlieni is the Program of the Social Democrats. Chicago, II!., Sept 13.?The meeting of the various branches of the newly organized Social Democracy was held last night to discuss the recent Hazolton, Pa., tragedy, and some decidedly lurid language vas indulged in by the speakers. Resolutions were passed by branch No. 2 which contained the following : "The blood of an idle and medium aristocracy is the most convenient medium for nourishing the tree of liberty. 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' ? For every miner killed and wounded a millionaire should be trefited in a similar manner. The millionaire class is responsible for the slaughter of Sept loth and wt regard the torch as the most sue cessful weapon." Fitzgerald Murphy, president of branch No. 2, made a speed] in which he said : ' I he miners should carry weapons and use them. too. Tin time has come to meet force with force. I should have told them t? shoot to kill. I would kill I wen ty millionaires to-dav." Strong condemnatory resolutions were also passed by branch No. I and some tierce speecho!made. T P Quiun said : "I will not curry a musket. I will carrv a torch and a knife and will curry both as far as I can." Leroy M (roodwvn, F. V Debs* right hand man. and a director of the national board of social democracy, in the course of a speech said: "I would attack property with the torch; 1 would destroy their line palaces. Let us rebel when men are shot down as tlicv were in Pennsylvania." Several indignation meetings were held in the Polish quartet, and resolutions passed condemning the shootiug of the llazcllon miners and appealing to the I". S. government for protection.
