AVhat came near proving a fatal accident occured near the col ! ored Baptist church last Wcdnes day afternoon when Martha Clyburn, colored, in carelessly handj ing a pistol lying on a table in the , room accidently discharged it, the bullet striking a small colored girl, Almetta Clyhurn, who was staniling only four or five feet distant, in the right breast. A remarkable circumstance in connection with the shooting is that the bullet only pierced the dress worn by the girl and did not pene trate the two garments she had on underneath, yet the skin was punctured where the bullet struck just as if it had entered the IhmIv. The bullet was found on the floor. ? Kershaw Era. [For the ledger.
