Mr. Editor:?Unless I am greatly deceived, a very rv.,pectablo majority of the citizens of this township arc now in favor of the abolition of the present fence system. Those w ho are not influenced by prejudice, and who arc disposed to give the matter a thought, believe that the time ha? come to fence in the stock, and turn out the crops. M'uiv who opoosed the "no fence," favor the passage of a "stock law," and argue that the adoption of "no fence" would necessitate the lowing of a heavy tax to keep up Township or County fciices, and would therefore be more expensive than the plan of leucine stock b}' individual owner.-). Making every stock owner responsible for his or her stock, would obviate the. necessity of any tax, and would require much less labor than is now required to fence the growing crops. The argument is a good one and will commend itself to every thinking man. It certainly would he less trouble to fence in a lew head ol cattle and hog* than to keep up a lawful fence around entire fartu3, to say nothing about tl>e w^s^e of timber. ?The general health of our people arc good. ? A little son of Mrs. Josiah Via cent died on the 7th instant. ?The fruit crop in our section lias been greatly injured by the cold ; there will he no poaches. ?Our young folks are too busy at work to fly around much just now, and there will he few weddings until fall. \\9 1 - -- 1 '-A.
