Snow Storm? On Wednesday of Inst week, there was quite n heavy fu'J of snow nt this place, commencing at about 8 o'clock A. M and con'it?nin?r for five or six hours. The ground being wet, it disappeared as fast as it fell. District Convention? It will be seen from the proceedings of the public meeting .held hero on Friday last, that Dr. ?i. L. Crawford, Dr. W. C. Cauthen and Rev. D1*. Robinson received the n> niii. ition for delegates to represent this DUtri t in the Stato Convention. All of these gentlemen are understood to bo in favor of the separate secession of South Carolina from the Federal Union. The nomination was a unnnimous one. It is not probable that there will be ntjy opposition and should there not be, wo hopo that the entire District will no*ertheless turn out on the day of election and let the fact be proclaimed abroad that Lancaster is u unit on the great question of dissolving the present Union. The nominations on another column, handed in at a lute houp, were received after the above was in type. Complimentary Serenade. On Tuesday evening of last week n serenade demonstration was gotten up by the citizens of our village in iionor of our esteemed Representative, ). ^Villinma. Ksq , who had just returned from his duties in Columbia. The procession, headed by music from die Lancaster 8ni?.o Hyrn Bond, sloped in front of Major lleldon's Hotel, w-hep .on being called for, Mr. Williams appeared and addressed the assemblage. We were not present, but learn that it was one jof his happiest efforts, big vvjth the stiring character of the times. Messrs. M. P. Crawford. J. 1) Wvlie. and W. A Moore. jvare severally called upon and delivered appropriate addresses in the order in which wo have uauied them. We are glad to be able to record this evidence of the appreciation by the people of Lancaster of the services of pur worthy Representative, than whom a uiorn frank and independent public servant, or one more devotedly attached to the interests and honor of his District and State, is not to bo found among us. Lancaster at the state Fair, find among the list of premiums awarded at the late State Fair in fJolumbia, one in favor of Cnpt. Owing to a want of railroad facilities, this District has hfreti.fnrnoi.utt-il.it ted but little to tl>e annual exhibition of stock and other industrial products in Co lumbin. Were it otkeraiae, the effect would soon b<? felt in the increased interest und activity which our pet pie would manifest in thp vnripus departments of industrial wealth. The Secession Movement. The feeling in favor of a dissolution of the Union among the people of (jeorgiu, Alabama, .Mississippi und oilier .Southern States, is on the increase. Every mail brings us renewed evidence of this fact.? The various parties in those Stut.es, known as the Douglas, Bell and Breckinridge parties, are harmon'uing upon the great mnU ter in which they each have a common in* ierest?the snlvation of th? South?nn<t secession from the Federal Union is regarded as the only hope tor the cotton States. Numerous public meetings are re ported in which Lite three parties are represented, all acting together in harmonious concert. The indications in favor of u Southern Confederacy arc as prominent ns we could desire, arid far more ehceiitig than the most sanguine among us anticipated n few months ago. As respects this State, the ouch ion ?.f secession is acnrcely an open one. Tl e people tiavu already spoken?the hoi una gone forth. From the ten pliore comes up the over* helming voice for immediate action, and the same sentiment is re-echoed * from tlie mountain Districts. Never before was the State so near a unit, and ao deiferi.iina.l i? ?!,? r?..lir,.r f.. ?mv ivviing !" in ihmi in huith; quarters, that it is believed l>v ninny that if tlie .Mate had not signified her willingness to secede, some hostile demonilmtiori|would have been made by a portion of her citizens which would have brought them in conflict will) the general government and the Stale thus dragged into a revolution. The exercise of our right of secession, under the prtsinl slate of feeling, promises to be the most peaceful, as well as the most effective remedy for our grievances. Notwithstanding the weather wus exceedingly unfavorable, quito a number of ; persons were iu attendance, representing ' every portion, with tho exception of tho ! extreiuo North ar.d Eastern sections uf Uio j District. The Hon. Dixon Barnes, on motion of J. I It. Wade, Ksq., was called to the Chair,' j and W. M. Connors, Ksq , requested to net ' us Secretary. Tito Chairman, on taking his seat, introj dtteed the purpose of tho meeting in a few | brief and happy remarks : lie adverted to | the importance of this meeting and tho can' ses which had led to it. Already lias a revolution been inaugurated in our State, and ills for us, In common with tho citi-/ zens of other Districts, to say, whether we will carry it on to a glorious consummation, ' or retire from the contest in ignominy and i disgrace. For ten years he had desired to J s**e a dissolution of the Union ; heretofore the people had not nirreed with him in ! these views, but now n condition of things had sprung into existence w hicli hiw iiad j tlie happy effect of harmonizing the differI eiit sliades of opinions upon this subject, I nnii he was glad to believe that there wns but one ruin i end that all agree that the ; tuno for action has coino. Ho had never I questioned the patriotism and bravery of the I people of the District ; tho very natural love which we bore for the Union of our I forefathers has alone kept us from acting 1 before. Tnis movement is not confined to South Carolina; several of the other Southern States are preparing to act, but they ! have signified their wish tor us to take the lead, and although not desirous that South Carolina should appear conspicuous in this great undertaking ; yet as they have as signed us the post of danger, we regard it also the post of honor and will accept it. A glorious future awaits the South, if she will but carry out promptly tjie measures ...I.;..I. i ? : . ,i._ ... niiicia iiiitu ucru iimu^mii^cu , iiiu danger to be apprehended is the proffers of compromise or concessions which may be tendered us with the view of distrneting our purposes. We should gnnid ourselves against nil such, nnd listen to no propositions which may come from any State, not resolved upon separating from the Union, lie had, while in the discharge of his duties as a. member of the Legislature at the re. cent extra Session, felt the greatest interest in respect to the position of I<u?cuslcr in the present crisis, and lie would ackr.owlk edge that hu had in some degree underrated her spirit and patriotism, lit* was rejoiced w hen he returned home to find her so uni- I ted and so determined, and when lie returns to Columbia, will tell bis friends there that Lancaster is not oply ready for uctiou, but is desirous of being assigned a conspicuous pl?icp in the Ji.eturc. It is a matter greatly to be desired that etory District should speak unanimously in thu Convention, Such unanimity will have a good effect abroad and materially tend to the curly accomplishment of our purposes. If we are, us hu believed to be the ease, united up on principle, we should not suffer personal considerations to divide us, but in our *e- I lection ot persons to represent us in that | Convention, foroct personal preferences and prejudices and net alpnc for tlie common 1 good.
