ENGLISH DEPARTMENT. This department lakes hoys at an c*.r|y ago, nnd carries them through all tho studies preparatory to entering the Classical ami .Mathematical Department. It proposes to give P* Urn most thorough-training in the elements of education and to lav deep the foundations "f of future scholarship ; and by kind but decided discipline to form the habits of the child to obedience and truth. CLASSICAL AND MATHEMATICAL. This department, as heretofore, will be under the direct charge of the Principal. Its j object is t?> give boys a thorough Classical and Mathematical training, in order to prepare them for admission into any class of the South Carolina, or any other college in the country. Attention is called to the fact, that during the whole course of ten years' teaching, j'' not an applicant for admission to college, who has been prepared and recommended by ' the Principal, has ever been rejected ACADEMICAL The object of this department is to afford to such pupils as do not design to enter college, a complete ani careful liainiug in all the brunches of education necessary to j quality thun to enter directly upon the study of any of the professions Special instruction will be given to those young men who design to engage in a Commercial ea.ccr,so p as to lit tlu-iii for the active duties of the Counting-house. Vj A Diploma of Graduation will be conferred upon those pupils who complete the course of Study prescribed in this department. MOUEltN LANGUAGES. This department is tinder the control of an experienced French Professor, who, having always moved in the best French society, speaks the language with a purity of accent and aecurney of diction rarely attained His unexampled success in teaching the French and Italian languages are the best evidences of bis ability ; and it is wiili great satis. t'-.i.l lot, . The plan ndnpUnl is similar to that pursued in the French colleges, in one of which the Professor graduated, taking the honors of his class. Hoys of ordinary capacity, taught bv him, are frequently, in the short space of si.\ months, enabled to .speak the language with greater ease and Huenoy than many who have sj ent years in study hy the usual method. Professor G. F. 1>e Vine will give instruction in Vocal and Instrumental Music if desired v Tlie examinations in each department will bo held semi-annually, or) separate days, " ' during the months of June and December of each year, to which all persona interested , in and friendlv to the Institution are rnvited to attend. Thankful for the support hither to so kindly extended to him, the Principal hopes, bv I M> t'.e aid of competent instructors, and by untiring personal attention, to give no-reused satisfaction, and to alford a school irt every respect worthy of the p rlrouage of the urost _ exacting paren).
